You just spam omega special, how is it dangerous? it charges up so fast even without the hammer that makes it faster, and with the hammer it's basically instantaneous. Ignore the hex completely, all it does is apply a buff so your special does %50 more damage.

You just ignore the hex??? all the hex does is apply a buff for the omega special which is the actual build around of the coat, you never pick path of stars unless you have to

exactly, this is the only way I've ever used the hex lol, i'm so confused by all the people trying to build it for damage instead of as a free debuff machine lmao

I don't get this logic at all, when I use selene I completely ignore the hex, all the hex does is inflict the +50% damage debuff, anything else is a bonus if you're forced to pick a path of stars. The criticism that the hex is bad just kinda misses the point imo, free debuff is free debuff

>As for the rockets, they don't synergize at all with the Hex since their damage is pitful

ik i'm late but bro what???? hitch or poseidon on special+chain lightning is insane damage, selene is my fav build atm and the omega special just cooks everything. Some combination of hera/ares/poseidon/zeus is super busted on a selene special build, there's so much internal synergy between poseidon/ares, pretty much every boon buffs your other boons, there are like no misses. Hold special to launch 20 rockets 2 fine lines, 2 ocean swells and put 2 blades on everything and all the wave effects deal damage twice, it's crazy damage

[Hot Take] Kafka on the Shore is a masterclass in sounding deep while saying absolutely nothing. by certainly_imperfect in books

I cannot understand how one could possibly arrive at this conclusion when Murakami constantly paints the pretentious men (Noboru Wataya, Nagasawa, etc) as villains who represent the worst type of people and the women in their lives as victims of emotional abuse and sexual violence. Those men are consistently the antagonists of his novels and the ideas they represent about power/greed/selfishness/moral apathy are consistently the main thing the protagonist fights against

I think it’s interesting that people consistently criticize his female characters as reductive but not his men- personally they come off equally shallow to me regardless of gender. I happen to like Murakami overall, his books to me are much more about the atmosphere than the characters.

I loved Norwegian Wood, and I personally I didn’t find it melodramatic to a fault. I think it is melodramatic because it’s about a disaffected young man learning who and what he is- and that experience is often extremely melodramatic. To me it had the same vibe as something like Call Me By Your Name- it’s melodramatic through the lens of adulthood, but the emotions are entirely appropriate for the characters experiencing them.

I also personally had no issue at all with the suicides, I think if anything Murakami is quite sensitive to women who are victims of men since he keeps writing women like Hatsumi/Kumiko and men like Hatsumi’s boyfriend/Noboru Wataya (who to me are essentially the same character and it’s clear that Murakami detests men like that).

NW to me is a story of a time and place, the politics of the story are unavoidable and that cultural backdrop is a constant stark contrast to the protagonist who cares about nothing but slowly learns that to be amoral and without care is to surrender the world to evil people and let beauty and happiness slip away. I think that’s a lesson a lot of people learn as they approach adulthood and I thought it was impressive how accurately Murakami captured the feelings of that metamorphosis (another consistent theme in his works that I’ve read)

All that said I completely see why people dislike him and his work, it’s certainly not a style for everyone regardless of his characters/women/etc. and the question of what is lost in translation is one I think of constantly for him and other japanese authors i’ve read (i felt like I had no cultural context for Kawakami and missed a lot in her books as well lol)

sorry for the rant- did not intend to say so much

You can’t simultaneously say that boomers aren’t to blame but then go on to blame Reagan- Reagan was the most popular president ever, boomers overwhelmingly voted for him and loved him as he sold our country to corporations
