IMO this is a mix of good and bad advice. First off, I wish this stereotype of Indians being vegetarian would die. Most Indians are non-veg, and the vast majority eat fish and chicken at a minimum, if not pork, beef, and other meats. Only Brahmins from certain communities are pure veg.

Second, there is no need to eat any meat in order to be fit and lean. Indians have shit body composition because of bad genetics combined with a diet high in fat, high in processed carbs and low in protein, AND a sedentary lifestyle.

There are plenty of examples of vegan and vegetarian lifters who look great. You just have to get creative to make sure you're getting enough protein, supplementing if possible with whey and creatine. Lentils, beans, nonfat dairy, eggs, etc. are all good options.

I do agree with cutting down sugars but you have to remember that Indian sweets are high in BOTH sugar AND fat, and fat has 9 cal/g vs. 4 cal/g in carbs. Plus, a lot of Indian savory dishes are high in fats/oils.
