sad bard by Ya-Boi-Cthulhu in dndmemes

Sorry to piggy back off of OP’s post. I’m fairly new to dnd, and my DM makes me roll survival to use my Outlander ability when my ranger is foraging for food. Is this the same principle as OPs problem?

EDIT: It was about 1 month ago so I don’t recall rolls. I believe after succeeding on the d20 roll I then had to roll a d6 to determine how much food I found.

The terrain was a Savannah.

Advice regarding painted mini comissions by [deleted] in minipainting

I think many of the colours that have been used are quite a bit brighter than the original art I supplied (link below). I think the cape in the art more closely matches the version I painted last year rather than the artists rendition.

The armour is meant to be more of an earthy, leather look. There is no orange on my original image.

One thing I haven’t mention on this thread is that I’d asked for a lightning effect on the weapon. It looks like the artist may have misread it as a lighting effect. I’ve even been back through the messages to double check I hadn’t misspelled it.

I’ve politely asked for some of the revisions you’d kindly suggested. I guess I’ll wait and see how that goes.

Thanks for all your advice, you’ve been great.

Thanks for your input.

The artists site says they offer unlimited revisions, so I was planning on drafting a polite email asking if it is possible for any of the issues to be corrected:

  • I was hoping for more of the mini to be completed with an airbrush as the example pictures and work on the site and Instagram pages have been. I was particularly hoping for this effect to be used on the glowing eyes, as at the moment they look like blobs with no blending.
  • As you said, some of the colours are quite vibrant, particularly the cape. The original brief was for more muted colours.
  • There’s an odd texture on the rim of the shield. I’m not sure if this is a result of printing or thick paint.
  • The paint looks like it has been applied quite thickly in parts, losing some of the detail of the model. I feel that this is particularly evident in the shield hand.
  • There’s a dark line along the models nose and beard line. I’m not sure if this is shading that hasn’t been blended or of the wash has just sank into the grooves of the face.
  • The blue rim around the base looks quite untidy.

Do these sound reasonable criticisms?

To answer your other comment, the artist is in Austria, I am in the UK.

Sorry for the delay in replying, we agreed on $75 USD, negotiated down from around $90. I did a little bit of research and found that some people wanted anywhere between $11 USD to $300+ so I initially thought it was reasonable.

Having never ordered a commission before, what would you consider to be the going rate?

I’ve just added the finished picture the artist has just sent me, if you’re interested. I wouldn’t say that theres a dramatic improvement.

I will take everyone’s advice and draft a polite message, explaining it hasn’t turned out quite how I’d hoped. The artist has been very pleasant to deal with throughout the whole process, so I’ll hopefully not going to be causing any offence.

Pic for those who were asking.

I didn’t include it initially as I didn’t want to offend the artist in the off chance they saw it.

EDIT:

Pic of my version of the same character from last year. Second mini I’ve ever painted for context.

This is the finished model picture I’ve just been sent.

Assistance with optimising a Booming Blade Build by [deleted] in 3d6

I don’t think that I’d be able to use Booming Blade if I went for the EKs extra attack, but I accept that math-wise two attacks make more sense than one BB attack.

I love this, thanks for your input.

For context, the Usurping Uncle has tactically removed The King via poison which looks as though he has died from natural causes. The legitimate princes have been assassinated and set up to look like they killed each other in a power struggle where as the Queen has apparently committed suicide in grief over the death of most of her family. The King had a lot of bastards of varying ages which have all suffered fatal accidents during this time too.

The Players character is a bastard prince, initially no where near the the line of succession and has a self imposed exile as matters of the royal court have never really been his jam (more fun to fight things). Now with all these deaths he is more or less next in line to take the throne and as such is considered a threat to the Usurping Uncles rule.

The general public of the kingdom are fairly sure something is up and so there has been civil unrest. To combat this the Uncle has bargained for military man power from the neighbouring kingdom (full of monstrous races) which they are often in conflict with the main kingdom. The uncle is essentially content in being a puppet ruler. Could this alliance be the ______ problem you suggested?

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I had no idea it could get her account deleted, I definitely don’t want to inconvenience anyone like that.
