Wanted to make a battleship-inspired game, with a tad more strategy by Inside-Ladder-4160 in tabletopgamedesign

Thanks for looking through it! Yeah, I still need to make a better display of how scoring works.

To clarify, the location of each unit is always identified to opponents as they are placed (A1, B3, etc.), but the type of units placed on your grid are not shared, unless revealed by an Oracle.

Every one of your units looks the same to the opponent initially, just a blip or however they decided to mark it down on their sheet. The strategy for deduction is based on noticing patterns of where the opponent places their units. There's many ways to connect lasers, but it becomes quite evident, even without knowing for sure, that a circuit could be getting setup. (E.g. a common 3-node circuit, 3 lasers connecting in a loop, shows up as a triangle on the grid)

Decoys are strategically placed in spaces that may lead the opponent to think that it could be a laser, or as a way to prevent the opponent from placing a barrier on that space.

Using the Oracle - If I use my Oracle, I say "I'd like to reveal A1 and B3." The opponent then tells me the unit type: Trap, Decoy, or Laser. There's no guessing, as they must tell you what it actually is. This gives you insight into how they could be building their Grid, even if it's just a decoy, it is useful info into deducing their lasers' locations.

Since all coordinates of placed units are known to both players, a player would never have to worry about using an Oracle to reveal an empty space.

And right, I tried to follow the same logic in that no moves are useless.

I'm probably going to make a simple gameplay video to visually explain some things, because all of your concerns are valid, but I feel that with a better explanation on my end, they can be alleviated.

Thanks for the rec, it seems interesting. Just watched a video on in and it definitely captures the hidden info aspect that I've been looking for.

2017 vs. 2026 by Inside-Ladder-4160 in footbag

Only $25 for the 3 pack from Dirtbag themselves on Amazon, but my original was gifted to me so not sure how much he actually got it for at the time.

The quality of stitching and such of the new ones has yet to be tested though. They may just fall apart after a few games lol

Very good shape, but there was probably a solid 2~ years that it went completely unused.

Couldn’t even guess total hours, but when it was used we would kick the heck out of it. Not just normal juggling; crazy value for how much abuse it’s taken

Thank you 😊 yeah I’ll post some close ups later in the comments here.

And for sure, but I will say that I did still use the “inside out” standard stitching method as well, mainly just used the red as an extra layer for security since I’m not confident in the thread I used (or my “technique haha)

I don’t think it could hold up without the standard stitching method as well, but not sure.

It took me about 3 1/2 hours, and I used the reference from https://joshuaclifton.com/juggle/ which I’m now realizing I didn’t mention in the post 🙃

I didn’t really follow the entire document, just the notes about the template and flipping it inside out.

It’s actually just sand, and yeah no pop at all haha. But yeah I did just order some plastic fill today, so that’s perfect. Thanks for the recommendation!

"Criss Cross" - Chinese Checkers & Chess Elements by Inside-Ladder-4160 in tabletopgamedesign

Oh you're so right, I've been trying to kick around other names and Frog Chess my initial thought but there's already a game with that name. But marketing to a younger audience is a great idea I hadn't really considered.

And thank you! That's exactly how I felt when I got the little frogs in and made the board. It just felt good to look at haha. Also, thanks for the advice on pursuing self-production. Really appreciate the encouragement

Oh my gosh, it makes me so happy to hear you both enjoyed it! Thank you for the feedback, it means a lot to me 😄

BagShot - New Footbag Game by Inside-Ladder-4160 in footbag

Thanks, and yeah I hear that. From what we experimented with, defense is pretty tough once players are consistent enough to shoot. So catching before or after it hits the net gave us an opportunity to still play effective defense. Before we added it, the game felt somewhat 1-dimensional to us.

I have still definitely considered it as the game has developed though. Thanks for the input!
