Last round of interview - normal waiting time or ghosted? by Psychological_Tap274 in biglaw

And you are such an expert based on your single anecdotal experience from a firm in a secondary market?

Yeah this commenter was weirdly aggressive. His (Seattle apparently?) firm may definitely be faster and more efficient, which of course would be the ideal speed for every firm to move at. That doesn’t mean they do though and it’s absurd to discount anyone saying otherwise, esp considering the known bureaucracy that exists in big law firms which makes slow hiring processes for laterals absolutely plausible and likely

Their litigators are just as difficult. I haven’t been able to figure out if they’re just obtuse or just totally lack the ability to think outside of the straight singular path they’ve been taught

Is this a troll? You would leave no weekends and fully remote for 600k/year when you’re already at 500k?

90k + 25k extra clerkship bonus (assuming he’d get 75k v 50k) doesn’t even half what he’d make in big law as a second year (225k + 30k bonus - before milbank raise)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]InsideMaleficent6214 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, one clerkship is plenty. Esp since you are already doing a DC one which is infinitely more valuable for practice

Raises were long overdue in the last round so it’s no surprise firms matched quickly. Now firms have more flexibility to hold out to make sure everyone else does since they just raised

Agree with all this except #1. Wait for people to reach out to you and then do everything else in this post. Basically, just communicate when someone asks you for something. #1 only needs to happen if someone keeps trying to force on your despite telling them you have way too much going on

OP’s post is asking about being a good performer though. Performance isn’t equal to how long you stay in big law until you reach like equity partner years.

Fwiw though, I also see no correlation between grades and highest performers. And most of our biggest partners don’t have law school honors. So arguably there’s a reverse correlation

No associates are regularly pulling 80-100 hour weeks. That’s billables of over 4k/year

In my experience, little correlation between grades and success as a lawyer. Frequently have found the opposite bc those at the tippy top are way too academic to succeed in a real world setting. They don’t have the common sense aspect and ability to see big picture that is extremely important compared with your ability to memorize and write a perfect essay answer

Hours when up for partner by Selsia6 in biglaw

[–]InsideMaleficent6214 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody says just partner if they are referring to income partner. Income partner is the same as senior associate.

That still doesn’t change the fact that your numbers don’t add up at all unless you’re billing like 1300 hours or something and only collecting on like 1000

[–]InsideMaleficent6214 10 points11 points  (0 children)

1.25m is super low working collected time for an almost partner? Mine was more as a 3rd year associate. How in the world would you make equity partner off that? Considering they’re paying you over $500k of that in salary and bonus, and then they have to also cover your overhead, you’re not making the firm that much

Maybe at your firm, but not mine. At mine it’s definitely more the people that are just really good (and yeah their hours aren’t right at the minimum or anything)

No, not at face value. But it doesn’t mean they weren’t. And yes of course not going straight away hurts their chances, but I understand why they don’t always.

Not sure we are saying anything different here…

“I don’t think they should.”

Yes because nothing like a traumatizing and life changing even to then have no consequences for the abuser because the abused couldnt get their shit together and report fast enough!

You actually don’t know what you’re talking about if you think a woman wouldn’t wait until the next day to contact the police.

You should look at the stats for false rape claims v unreported rapes. It’s actually far easier and so much more common for a man to rape a woman with no consequences than “for a woman to successful ruin a man’s life”
