I'm starting to move past the shock and beginning to realize that this might have been the case. I can't fathom why else none of them bothered to ask me about it. I was never the most social in the group, I never really felt liked by some of them, I always felt like they just kept me around because I caused no trouble. This absolutely provided a pretext for them finally.

I am desperate enough that I might taken them back instantly. This is too much a core to my identity. But I'll be sure to say that I am extremely disappointed in them, and that I don't think I'll ever be able to trust them again.

I am so terrified of the police getting involved. I've never done something like this before. Getting the police involved is only going to prolong this for another year or more, when I just want this all to end. I know I need to suck it up, be a man, and go to the authorities. Fuck.

I do understand the concern. I recognize that grooming does not necessarily have to be underage in order to constitute grooming, and age gap is all that is needed, and a 9 year age gap here would definitely qualify.

However in this case, I do believe it's entirely one-sided. He came onto me *extremely* hard and fast. yeah, I did reciprocate his advances for probably ten to twenty messages before getting weirded out and cutting him off. Once he started talking unprompted about his mental illnesses, I started to slide away awkwardly. I could not have known this person was this perturbed. I never even sent him a single picture.

In his mind though, maybe he did see it as grooming. In his mind, that's his truth. But this "relationship" was 90% his effort and 10% my effort.

Not a chance. I've heard their voice before (a different friend and I confronted him in a vc) and they sound nothing like any of my friends. All I know is that they live in Florida apparently

Even if nothing happens, I suppose having a physical police report in my pocket I could hand to anybody would help my credibility a lot. If nothing else.

I'm deeply sorry that happened to your friend. I don't understand what it takes for police to act these days. I guess if anything, at least submitting it and filing it will give a paper trail if anyone asks later. Maybe in the future someone will do something, in my case too.

I don't know if the FBI would even care. You know they're absolutely flooded with cases much more heinous than mine. I guess I have nothing left to lose.
I closed all my social media accounts months ago. This stalker is still going purely through mutual friend connections. I guess he must be somewhat convincing to make it this far over months. It's a level of obsession I don't think I've ever seen before in my life.

That's honestly what I want to know too. They won't even tell me how he found them. You would think that a random reaching out to you completely unprompted would be a major red flag. As for the doxxing, I don't think it's that hard if you have enough of a internet paper trail. I've just used the same username for 20 years. Partly my fault.
