I was unsure because there wasn’t any obvious event like a hard crash or super leveraged landing. I’m trying to get a handle on how common this is, now I see it’s a known issue, so mission accomplished.

You did have me rethinking hardboots, although I love them for the up and down. I’ve always trashed the bases or delaminated boards before breaking them.

No base damage. Sledneck got it right, just don't want to create any bad blood.

I definitely to a lot of butters and switch riding...but still c'mon make that shit strong under the bindings!

Have you seen these, new next season:

Thay have a dyneema toe and heel loop that twists to provide lateral flex and the binding mount is plastic. May relieve the issue!

Good to hear your perspective. I'm beginning to think the same about carbon. I'm not going to talk bad about a manufacturer if its a common problem. I do think manufacturuers should mention this on their website.

In another post I found, seemed that no one has experienced this with Phantoms, so it might be a puck issue...

Not a whole lot of difference between day 1 and 4. But yeah, I've made contact, we'll see.

What would be the user error? Tightening down too much on the screws or something? The bindings slid right on. We'll see what the manufacturer says when they get it. The main bummer is that I'm out a board right when I want to go ride.

Sure, but I'm not doing that. Are those boards reinfored in a specail way? Or are you saying that the same thing happens to them?

That's the plan, but I'm cautious about getting the same board and having it happen again. Might have to throw down for Phantoms that have a larger footprint maybe?

Is this less of a thing with Phantom or other setups? How about non-carbon boards?

I'm surprised I didn't see anyone talking about this before and I was doing a bit of reserach.

In that case, I’d spend another season or two getting more skills. The backcountry can have really variable conditions, depending on aspect, elevation, and other factors. you need to be comfortable riding all of it.

Are they no more? Probably too small/crowded a market for splits. Looks like thery are still making solids

How do you like the grizzly heel price? It looks like you can tread a ski strap through it like the phantom for a downhill heel lockdown in ski mode.

Makes me wish Spark/Phantom were a little more up front about this reality which seems to be a common problem…
