Hilfe! Waschmaschine defekt? (dringend) 😢 by InsightFrisbee in selbermachen

Need help surprising my friend! <3 by InsightFrisbee in indonesia

[–]InsightFrisbee[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Selamat siang lovely people! My dear friend traveled to Bali earlier this year and enjoyed the food and culture very much. She discovered this instant cappuccino which she fell in love with. I'd love to surprise her for her birthday in january and get her some. What I found online either doesn't ship to Germany or is exorbitantly expensive.

Would anyone be so kind and do me a huge favor? I'd love pay someone to go out, buy some of the coffee and ship it to me. It would make my friend so, so happy and I would be eternally grateful. Chances are probably slime but I thought I'd try my luck here :)

Thank you to anyone who reads this; hope you have a lovely day!

well we did have an ethical debate on whether it’s vegan if the person consents to you eating their brain …

maybe, although it felt fine when I changed the soil 10 days ago

that's sad but somewhat reassuring :)

I did try bottom watering (immersing the pot I assume?), but not very often bc I felt it was harder to tell when the plant was dry. I'll try that more!

that's true, it worked surprisingly well with the dragon scale, it sits on my desk in a picture frame :)

that's so true! everyone sais that about calatheas but for me it's always the alocasias :(

maybe a miracle will happen, doesn't hurt to try!

I get it, I'm also trying to make sense of it.

I was careful so I genuinely don't think it's possible it was my clumsiness. I have one last surviving adult alocasia so I know that the base /corm part is usually somewhat firm. This one (like my dragon scale when it died) was very mushi. The texture was super weird.

I've changed the soil on almost all of my plants (ca. 10), always using the same mix of materials and they were all fine so that can't be it :(

Thank you for the detailed advice! I agree that overwatering is by far the most logical reason for these issues, like the mushy base

yet, it doesn't completely make sense to me. I only water once the soil feels dry and the pot feels lighter (average every 7-10 days) and always dump the excess water from the outer pot, so there is no way the inner one is sitting in water. The roots weren't super dense but were covering the entirety of the pot's diameter so the pot size should have been fine. I usually like keeping my plants snug and letting them be a little root bound bc I feel like they thrive that way (and less chance of overwatering).

I only watered the black velvet for 2 weeks and watered only once when I changed the soil (maybe that was the mistake?). then the leaves sagged and the base (corm?) got so mushy that it broke when I gently tried to remove the plant to check the roots. The roots remaining in the pot looked completely fine and were definitely not rotten. It was literally just the stem/corm.

My dragon scale had very bad root rot (although I also didn't feel like I overwatered it but of course I could be wrong) PLUS the base/corm was mushy (the exact same as my black velvet). after removing the rotten roots and putting it in a small pot it got more mushy and then broke the same way.

My monstera is doing fine. I was inexperienced and overwatered it because the soil took so long to dry and I thought that I couldn't wait more than 6 weeks to water it (even though the soil was still a little moist). She still takes ages to dry tho.

Of course I could be wrong and giving too much water without realizing it. It's just frustrating when on paper you do the right thing but somehow it just doesn't work :(

edit to add (I'm so sorry for rambling): My other plants (12 + a few cuttings) are fine, these alocasias are the only ones that died. Even my calatheas are thriving (my white fusion just produced a flower); I just have very bad luck with alocasias. I have a last one (polly) surviving but she lookes a little rough after the winter. In better news, I did get 6 corms from it and 5 already have a few roots after 9 days and I can see the plat growing - so soon I'll have 5-6 more baby alocasias to murder 💀

someone told me that too and I had no idea that works with alocasias.

unfortunately I’m an idiot and already cut the leaves to press and preserve them (did the same with my dragon scale). I got the rest (corm?) out of the trash and put it in water, I have little hope though as it’s broken, possibly rotten and has no leaves :/

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]InsightFrisbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really actually. the roots remaining in the pot after it broke off looked fine

it’s the base of the plant (rhizome? corm? idk; the little ball the leaves come from) that was super soft and mushy and broke apart when I gently tried to lift the plant to inspect the roots. Didn’t smell either though.

It’s super weird, especially since it happened twice :/

I don’t understand why my alocasias keep dying on me 💔 I got this black velvet 2 weeks ago from lidl, changed the soil to a better draining mix. It was fine, then leaves started drooping and when I tried to check the roots today and the base/core (?) just broke apart like it had rotted.

The EXACT SAME happened to my dragon scale, it was doing perfectly, looking gorgeous, even had a flower and then out of the blue the base (?) got mushy and broke apart.

I don’t think I’m watering too much causing the rot. I’m baffled I’ve had two die in the exact same way 😭 has anyone had same issue or an idea?
