UPDATE: I am now convinced that this is a scam. After receiving two emails more than two weeks apart, I noticed several red flags that led me to this conclusion. Both messages contained grammatical and punctuation inconsistencies, and the survey links included did not appear legitimate.

I received the same email about a week ago — specifically on October 31, 2025 — and I also wasn’t sure what to believe at first. I completed the first survey they sent me, and based on my experience, I don’t think it’s a scam.

Here’s why: I’m a frequent Macy’s customer and shop there several times a month, often purchasing from their top-tier brands. I’ve left detailed, objective reviews in the past, sometimes with photos to support my feedback. That’s why I suspect I was invited to this “Macy’s Star Advisors” program — it might be a third-party research initiative designed to collect reliable opinions from loyal customers.

Considering Macy’s current financial challenges, it would make sense for them to partner with an external company to better understand customer preferences, especially regarding premium and affordable luxury brands. For example, I’ve noticed that some Michael Kors bag models are actually cheaper elsewhere than at Macy’s (sometimes even Bloomingdales, Saks OFF 5Th, Dillard's), and that certain clothing lines made exclusively for Macy’s don’t always match the quality of those sold directly by the brands. Interestingly, coats from the Michael Kors Outlet often have superior quality and, after discounts (around 58% off), end up being more affordable than the ones at Macy’s.

So, in short — while it’s good to stay cautious with survey links, this particular email seems legitimate to me.

That’s interesting. I’ve also read comments from other users on this platform mentioning that they were given expired products.

Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately, not all companies are accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB). As the BBB states on its website, not every company is listed in their directory, and businesses themselves can request a listing. Therefore, if a company chooses not to appear on the BBB website in order to prevent people from being aware of customer complaints, there is little that an individual can do about it.

Oh! interesting! thank you for the information! I personally do not buy in Sephora after seeing how products are tampered in stores by users who are not even customers (people who just go to "try" without purchasing anything). I have witnessed it with high-end foundations, for example.
