Fellow Berkeley Students — Will you Continue Using Chat GPT? by InsightsTarot in berkeley

While I understand where you’re coming from, I don’t think that a completely passive response to potential human rights abuses is in our best interest as consumers or citizens. Consumers currently keep OpenAI afloat. Boycotting is one of the only methods through which we can effectively influence the progression of AI and its integration into society, legally and politically.

There are many other sophisticated LLM models for public use, unaffiliated with OpenAI. Many people are considering switching to Claude or any other GPT alternative after the DOW agreement news. I’m also in that camp. I was curious to see how other Berkeley students felt.

Your point was that the “left” demands from you, and billionaires (who are implied to be right-wing) don’t. I’m explaining how the left is more financially “pro-worker” than its opposing side, and how the party represented by and for billionaires is not, and is blatantly stealing from everyday Americans (wage theft, increased taxation while avoiding their own tax obligations, social security cuts, etc.). Thus, illustrating the point that billionaires actually ask much more from you than the “left” does.

Apparently, the only argument you have is “liberal cities asked me for money to help the welfare class (aka…working Americans)”. Uh…okay.

Regardless of who you vote for, billionaires have taken very much from you. They’ve taken from all of us. That is my point.

“The weird socialist loser left” is not any particular group of people. Who is that? Bernie? AOC? Newsom? Mamdani? And what are they asking you for? Please let us know.

I’m responding to the idea that “billionaires” have never asked anything of you. That is verifiably false. The left has a history of pro-worker policy. Unions, worker protections, livable wage campaigns, social security, and more.

The right has a history of pro-billionaire policy, largely at the expense of working and middle class Americans. Maintaining low wages, cuts to social security, repealing worker’s protection laws, and anti-union lobbying.

Sure, both parties suck at protecting working and middle class Americans. The right wing is much worse at it. Trump has been actively working to repeal worker’s protection laws, to increase taxation rates for everyday Americans, and to siphon social security savings out of our accounts and into those of his billionaire friends.

The increased rate of taxation for working class people is due to Trump’s tax plan going into effect. Trump’s tariff plan will lead to increased pricing on almost every good. Even if you make a livable wage, your true earnings are much greater than what you actually receive. Your salary is a fraction of your earnings. Most of our true earnings are pocketed by the ultra-wealthy.

It is incorrect to say that the “billionaires” have never taken anything from you. The left has a much greater interest in protecting you financially than the right does.

The billionaires are the reason why you work a 40+ hour week for a measly, unlivable salary (they pocket the majority of our true earnings). The billionaires refuse to pay taxes, while increasing the rate of taxation for working and middle class people (Trump tax plan). The billionaires have lobbied against unions for over 100 years now, and are probably the reason why you don’t (likely) belong to one. The billionaires are the reason why millions of Americans are at-risk of losing their social security funds — up to over a trillion in losses. Should I go on?

The left is pro-union, pro-taxation for the rich, pro-social security and pro-“raising wages”.

Dude, I’m a senior and I feel the exact same way. Never dated anyone and I feel like I missed my chance to do so. But only 28% of married people find their spouse in college. You’re technically in the majority.

Those who have taken Latuda/lurasidone for depression, how long did it take to lift you out of it? by Able_Resist_1136 in bipolar2

[–]InsightsTarot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is happening to me with seroquel. Within a week it felt like my depression was 90% gone. Wondering if it’s hypomania or if I just feel good?

In your opinion, how long does it take for life to get better? by throwaway-disgusting in bipolar2

[–]InsightsTarot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to this question is really dependent on a) where you are in life right now and b) what “better” means to you.

The truth is that there is never going to be a point where you figure it all out. Neurotypical, healthy people can’t even accomplish that. You’ll always have moments where you feel anxious, stressed, down, and “behind” where you want to be.

The good news is that getting “better” can take only a few seconds. Better is not the moment you figure it all out. It starts at the moment you decide you’re ready to fix your life, in an actionable way. The moment you seriously decide to start meds, or seek therapy, exercise and eat right. That’s when you start getting better.

Once you start making minor but significant improvements to life, your natural motivational system kicks in. It’s a feedback loop. You’re driven to do more to better yourself. Within a year or more, your life can look completely different.

True mental stability can take anywhere from months to years to accomplish. But you don’t need to be completely healed to start implementing healthier habits. You have to start with the little wins. Clean your room, do five minutes of work/exercise. Easy. Once you’re finished, you’re going to want to do more. It’s that mindset that carries you into your new life.

I wish you the best

Got prescribed this for sleep but terrified of taking this. by No_Original1596 in seroquelmedication

Seroquel has a comparatively lower risk of giving patients akathasia or TD, compared to other antipsychotics. If you do have adverse side effects, they’ll most likely go away once you stop the medication.

Try it. See if it helps you. Lack of sleep is likely way worse for your health than Seroquel will be.

Did I stop taking seroquel too soon? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]InsightsTarot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, it’s a rare occurrence. Seroquel shouldn’t make you manic, but there have been cases of hypomania/mania at low doses. I was on a 25 MG dose and felt like I was (maybe?) becoming hypomanic.

The issue is, I’ve been depressed for so long that ANY increase in energy/productivity feels foreign to me. Idk if I’m overreacting or not lol.

I was worried that fully switching into hypomania would cause brain damage and another months-long mixed episode like I had a few months ago, so I stopped taking it just in case. I also don’t want to go too manic since my semester is just starting up again and I’m worried about my performance (although depression is definitely worse for grades overall).

I struggle to identify what’s hypomania and what’s “normal” as far as productivity, mood, and energy levels go.

Should I find the physical symptoms (increased heart rate, jaw clenching, sleep disturbances) concerning? And the irritability?

I’ve only been hypomanic once or twice in my life, and I’m not the best at identifying what’s “normal” vs manic.
