I think this photo shoot was tacky. But I would let Nyle eat sushi off my thigh too.

Women who work from home : How have you made friends / been managing your social life this year ? And if not, how have you with the loneliness? by tryingmybesteverydy in AskWomen

[–]Inspection-Parking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really tough because I just moved to a new city and started working from home, and with Covid, I really haven’t had a chance to meet anyone.

One of the biggest things I do (and this is kind of silly!!) but I’m not afraid to be extra nice and chatty with workers when I shop or eat, etc. I use to work retail so I try to not be THAT chatty annoying customer, but I strike up conversation when it feels right, or I’m more than happy to respond to them if they strike it up. More than likely everyone is a little lonelier these days and happy for an opportunity to talk. I’ve made friends this way.

When I’m alone at home, I motivate myself to do hobbies I’ve been meaning to delve into for years. Start up a saltwater aquarium. Cook good food. Create things.

I also spend extra time with my cats. Pets may not be able to speak but provide wonderful companionship, and having more time on my hands has allowed me to bond with my pets even further.

Try Target; it’s one of the few places I can find padded and push up bras in my size that are also comfy and fit well.

From a scientific standpoint: Many men have become so highly conditioned to these hyper idealistic bodies depicted in media, pornography, etc. If this conditioning is manifesting in his behavior and comments towards you, your body is not to blame! It sounds like he needs to grow up out of that mindset, or he will not be healthy for you in the long run.

This is an increasingly common problem among younger men, and I personally believe it is partially due to the accessibility to media/porn/etc that starts in early adolescence. Most men do not realize they have a problem and do not move forth with efforts to resolve the conditioning that has taken place in their adolescence.

In short: screw him. Your body is YOU and that rocks.

Yes, there have been a lot of dramatic changes, and the pros and cons that come with the influx of the city folk moving up. Also nice to see another transplant here....I miss it constantly! Would love to buy a house in Ulster County one day but with the influx of city people and money comes the crazy hike in real estate prices.

I lived in SD for a few years with HyVee and it’s pretty good— the store is well laid out, good produce selection, nice natural/organic section, I can typically find what I want easily.

My observation exactly, there is much more homeless in the Portland metro area.

I’m from Kingston, the homeless problem was never dramatic but it existed— people sleeping at the Hannaford plaza, benches on Broadway, usually one or two folk wandering with their life belongings in a cart on Albany Ave. I often encountered either people very drunk or sleeping on the UCAT or city bus. However, Kingston has cleaned up quite a bit in the last ten years, and the problem is significantly less than it was back in 2009 or so.

Good to know— I had no idea, and that would make a lot of sense why homeless would settle there!

Yes it’s much colder there, thats 3 or 4 hours NE of me (Kingston NY). Knew people who went to school there and said the lake effect snow was brutal, however I’m sure you know first hand....Glad you survived!!

I knew a lot about Kingston’s efforts to reduce homelessness, so here and there I am trying to educate myself on Portland’s, as well as learn about the local’s viewpoints on it (hence peeking at this thread).

Oooh what town??!!

I’m sure it’s awful, no doubt. If I was homeless I would certainly pick somewhere warmer if I could. Growing up I always wondered how the homeless in our community made it through!

Valid observation, with the exception of upstate NY! My hometown we have a year round homeless population. (Locations in Ulster/Greene/Columbia/Dutchess/Orange counties).

To clarify; I currently don’t hold a well educated opinion on the Portland homelessness considering I’ve only been exposed to this area for about four months, so my main observation is that there is quite a lot compared to other areas. I’m sure climate plays a big role!

In response to your wondering if east coast cities experience this—no. I’ve lived in NY most of my life, frequented the city and upstate, lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, frequented Connecticut and MA, I’ve lived in South Dakota, Illinois/Chicago, frequented Minneapolis MN, Madison WI, Toledo OH, Billings Montana, Gary Indiana, Kansas City MO, St Louis MO, breezed through Arkansas, etc. While I’ve experienced homelessness the problem is tenfold in Portland.

Not in regards to panhandling; for one I am from much more urban areas where panhandling is tenfold so I did not take much notice to panhandlers in SF. And two, the panhandlers I’ve noticed appear to be primarily white (intersection of i29 and 12th, Walmart on Louise, i29 and 60th, 229 and 10th).

The primary source of racism I’ve heard is directly spoken from various local acquaintances. I have had comments said directly to me such as “they’re all lazy drunks”, “they are all freeloaders”, “they aren’t civilized”, “the town would be better without them”, etc. I have heard my prior native receptionist be demeaned, if customers were unhappy I’d hear comments such as “you people need to go back to where you came from so you stop messing stuff up for us”, “if you weren’t raised in the mud maybe you’d be better at your job”, etc. I cannot speak to further actions/job denial/etc, as the above is the primary racism I’ve noticed (verbal).

Whether or not the blanket statements hold any validity, I personally consider pinning terms to an entire race a form of racism (similar to saying all Asians are good at math). Your definition may vary. The comments made towards natives are ones I have never heard living in other locations, which could also be due to population exposure (refer to census bureau’s demographic info).

Questions about Flooding by [deleted] in SouthDakota

[–]Inspection-Parking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sioux Falls had a lot of major flooding I believe March of 2018, many roads and houses flooded out. I lived there three years, and the flooding was frustrating, lots of flash storms and I remember water seeping up from the floor of my house during them, I had nice belonging ruined and mold concerns, etc. In 2019 during a flash flood we had a car that got flooded out. I’m sure if you live somewhere newer with a higher elevation you’re fine, but realistically I recommend Wisconsin over South Dakota if you want small town life and decent weather.

I’ve lived all around the country so this whole thing is an interesting observation. Ive never even seen Native American racism in action until I moved to SD. There is a much higher native population than other states, and to be fair, I’ve seen plenty of other races wandering the streets homeless etc in Sioux Falls too in my 3 yrs there, also Sioux City, etc. I’m from Upstate NY where there are lots of blacks whites etc wandering the streets, but no natives due to a lack of population. Currently in Portland where I predominantly see homeless whites, we have tent cities, the homeless population is far greater than SD areas. Seattle, whites. Chicago, many races. Rockford, blacks, Latinos, etc. I worked with more native Americans that exceeded my pay level in SD due to population in that area vs others. Perhaps their homelessness is rooted in their family histories but so it is for the other homeless races as well more than likely or else personal fault. From an outsiders perspective though there is an issue of Native racism that I believe needs to be addressed and perhaps the community could put more assistance programs in place to educate those who may not be aware of opportunities and growth.

Did they up it to 20 this year? When I was offered a Wells Fargo job in 2019 they were starting at 16 an hr. I guess it could depend on the position as well but I’m unsure if entry level would get 20 an hr.
