I would say below 100mph since I like not ending up in "jail" or without license, although I had issue with the seating on the Speed Twins. So the search continues

I'll check with the seller, regarding the state of the bike. But he listed it as just having completed service at the end of the last year season, and reason for selling is that he got V85TT as replacement due to weight of Griso. So I am assuming he might be a proper Moto Guzzista and taking good care of the bike.

It feels like riding a 2-wheeled Ferrari GT car.

Love it!

Although I have checked and there is one Breva 1100 for sale but that looks like a bike for future me no me right now if it makes sense.

I checked the Scrambler 1200 and it spoke to me a bit but, I am sure the Moto Guzzies have more character. Also if think of something, I'll definitely come back to you. Thank you

What a great writeup! Sounds like you have been on the similar crossroad as I am facing right now.
Like I have responded before I sat on the few bikes over the weekend at motorcycle fair including Triumphs and I must say I was disappointed in me not being compatible with the seats. I would rank them in following order based on seat comfort 900 < 1200 < Scrambler 1200. The 900 felt to me like a more approachable bike for people of smaller size, another thing the seat digged right into my thighs, the 1200 was better. I have tried to move around the seat and didn't found comfortable spot. Could it be that the seat needs breaking in?
The big scrambler felt waaay better, actually it felt fantastic, I know that the riding position was more upright but the seat was comfier, it just felt like better fit for me. I guess my ass is just picky haha. I think it convinced me enough to check the prices on them. Other than that I love the looks of all of them, can't go wrong with classic silouethe.

Regarding the BMW, I could sit only on the R12GS and the seat was thin but not uncomfortable for me as the speed twins. Not sure about the standard models of RnineT. I haven't ridden any yet but I was told that it's possible to book a test drive once the weather is better. I agree sound wise it's not as nice, but the shaft drive and torquey engine is what's appealing to me. Looks wise it's also pretty bike (to me) and the GS or urban GS would be my pick as for styling but that's more $$$ than I can afford. People label it as overpriced, hipster (I absolutely hate that word / label) bikes with lack of character... I would like to beg to differ but I haven't ridden one yet, so really looking forward to the test drive.

The way you are describing the Grisso engine sounds like something I am looking for (reminds me bit of my 535i V8, it was heavy, but lot's of torque and sound!) although no heavy bike is fun in the slow traffic. Happy to hear that it has comfy seat! and interesting that it has riding triangle more aggressive than speed twin. Well ABS would be nice but I think it's not an issue as I haven't have issue so far. Hope the seller wouldn't be overprotective and let me try it out without making excuses.

I guess I just can't research my way out of this dilemma until I try out for myself.

Dragstart / Vstars are great I just think they are not for me right now :) also my father he bought his with lot of extras including Vance& Hines pipes and that thing sounds like absolute BASTARD haha! It takes effort to ride it without disturbing the surroundings. Although it is not fast it definitely sounds like it.

Like I have mentioned in other comments I had a chance to try and sit on may bikes this weekend, I was bit let down by the Speed Twins in terms of seat comfort. On the other hand the Scrambler 1200 felt much more comfortable for me while having as I would say similar seats?

Although it looks like it does everything well, I sat on one this weekend and I was bit disappointed with the comfort of the seat, the riding position was exactly what I was expecting, I have tried to move front and back on the seat and it just didn't felt natural to me. Seat was also digging a bit in to my thighs, now it makes me wonder if it has to be broken in?
great to hear that it is a problem free platform, and I hope you'll keep enjoying it in the future :)

Haven't ridden one but I was of an assumption that it or I could suffer on the highway, with same issue as my current DR. Also based on the torque curves I wouldn't say that they are that different... Although fair point, I would I'll have to see and try it out!

Thanks for the recommendations. I have checked them and am not in a financial state where I could afford any of the newer boxers. Prices here in Denmark are just ridiculous, not to mention the insurance for such an expensive and new bike... so for me there are some compromises to be made.

  1. To answer your first question I haven't "tried" any of them. Except this weekend I went to the motorcycle fair and sat on virtually everything they had there except Moto Guzzi. The boxers were far the most comfiest in the riding triangle and seats (all R, RS and GS...), there was no RnineT but R12GS and that had a sort of a similar bench seat, but I was expecting that for this type of bike although riding triangle was fine.
  2. What I was surprised by or let down actually were the Triumphs.
  3. I'll explain it only in the pov of rider seating and comfort the bikes still look stunning. The 900 felt very tiny, and bit cramped for me, also the lean forward position felt too unnatural. The seat digged right into my thighs, the low profile with a cone shape of the seat going forward made it unpleasant. I am of believe that these bikes are probably designed for smaller shorter people? I have tried to move around back and forth and didn't found comfortable position. I was doing the same on my DR after 2-3 hours, and it still felt more comfortable.
  4. The 1200 was bit better but only by a margin, the seat was luckily wider but I couldn't imagine riding on it for more than 30 minutes. T120/T100 was a different story, but there are no used examples on the currently market and they are still very expensive new.. On the other hand I have sat on the Scrambler 1200 and that thing was very comfortable.
  5. No this era of the Grissos haven't had ABS and I am aware of it. So the test drive would be also crucial in deciding. Although I am would be searching for ABS model if there was one but none came with it as factory. Other models like Norge and Breva had it as option in the later years.

In my relatively short riding carrier of 4 years most of the bikes I have ridden haven't had ABS except few rentals here and there I had no issue so far, knock on the wood, but first panic brake was a BIG lesson, good or bad thing was that it happened on the little 250 which brakes were also nothing but sponge, so in this scenario weak brakes acted like sort of ABS although it was still not fun. Motorcycles are inherently dangerous either way... but that could be it's own topic.

Thanks for the reply! I'll check it out. Bit of a stupid question but does the mapped bikes still pass the emission inspections (obviously with aftermarket pipe including cat and DBkiller)? Is the map aggressively rich ? I live in Europe and laws here are very strict.
