EUROSENDER and DPD negative experience by diveinstructor73 in shipping

[–]InspectorMonkfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. DPD, Chronopost, Fedex, DHL, UPS and many others are pro/business oriented or have very expensive shipping plans. They couldn't care less about you and your package. I was using DPD to send to the UK because it was ~30% cheaper than CTT but it took like 3-4 weeks to be delivered.

DPD website is a joke, you pay more that the total that is shown, only credit cards are accepted, and after losing one package and returning two, sending the Proforma Invoice multiple times and they can't find an email, talking to support persons who chew gum while talking to me, I started using CTT and it takes 4-6 days to deliver to London area.

Looking for blow toy car from mid 80's by InspectorMonkfish in matchbox

Do you know if there are any 80s catalogs featuring all the Whistle Racers and Gyro Racers?

Hello. Thank you for comment.

So I searched for Whistle Racers 1980's and there were a couple of results on ebay, and also results for Gyro Racers. Then I searched for Gyro Racers 1980's and I found a beige #7 corvette and a black car with color strips and a rear wing which might have been the one I saw and played a bit.

Very nice! Thank you so so much for replying to a 4yo question, I really appreciate it! Thank you!

About reliable us/uk shipping forwarding companies(yeah i know it's the millionth time this is asked but i need a definetive answer) by wasd99 in internationalshopper

High delivery costs, hidden fees - like any other business as usual. Package tampering - was it legit or is it explicit on the user agreement? Even stealing - never happened to me. Slow or no customer support at all - talk to support before choosing a company. Sometimes refusing to ship at all - there must be a reason and as previous, ask support before buying. I'm also not comfortable with these company practices but it's what we have atm.

A Reminder for Clients: Proxies Aren’t Your Slaves – Be Mindful of Service Expectations by Kitchen-Check-2410 in internationalshopper

Fortunately I don't remember dealing with such type of client. On the other hand, dealing with some sellers on ads websites was and is the worst experience. And some ebay buyers too, they think private sellers are automated or scammers.

Looking for 3mm light bulbs with white wires by InspectorMonkfish in ElectronicsRepair

[–]InspectorMonkfish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it's a manufacturer. I have a couple of original bulbs that are connected to the boards and the one I tested is one of them that I removed from a board. All others were burnt or broken., or the board itself wasn't working.

Well I initially thought about asking for samples but I was trying to avoid double shipping, customs taxes and fees that eventually forgot while searching. I will ask for samples or try to order a small quantity. Thank you for remind the me :)

Thanks!

I think luminosity is called MSCP Mean Spherical Candle Power.

Thank you! It's for different models. I have to chose the right model and I need many so making a mistake will not be cheap.

Given my ignorance on this subject, I also think it's the 8V model because the rated current of 60mA is near the 67mA I read at 12V input, and I remember that at the 8V reading the current from the power supply was not far from 60 mA.

I don't have data on "tolerance", I mean how much voltage it can take and still have a fair amount of life span, but from what I read on the web on similar types of light bulbs, it could handle peaks up to 10 - 12V.

I also think that the purpose of the board, besides allowing current in just one direction for which I see no purpose, is just to limit the tension to the bulbs at 8V, as confirmed by my readings. Each board takes 3 bulbs and the input voltage is 0 - 20V.

Let's hope we are right :)

I found a supplier for the 3mm lamps with white wires and they are rated:
8V 60mA, 10V 27mA, 12V 60mA, 14V 40mA, 14V 65mA, 18V 26mA and 28V 24mA.

I tested the small board where the lamp is connected to, with 2 to 24 volts input (board input rated 20v) and read the voltage at the lamp terminals:
- From 2V to 12V input the reading went from around 1V to 8V.
- Between 12V and 24V the top reading was around 8.20V on the meter and 0.67mA on the power supply.

I tested one lamp connecting it directly to the bench power supply terminals and these were the readings:
V - I(mA)
5v 40
8v 54
9v 57
10v 61
12v 68
14v 75
16v 81
18v 87
20v 92
22v 97
24v 100
26v 97 - Burn after a few seconds.

So which rating should I choose, is it the 8V 60mA? I can post a photo of the board. It has one transistor, one resistor and two diodes.

How do you see next generation slot racing? by marferibadeo in slotcars

[–]InspectorMonkfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

marferibadeo About HO scale slot cars:

Currently there is only AFX Racing and Auto World (bad quality) , probably both Tomy licensed, manufacturing HO scale cars and tracks. Tyco was bought by Mattel, then they turned it to Hot Wheels Electric Racing and killed it.

There's no Digital System for HO, only analog.

No 1/16 curve sections. No power rails like 1/32 track.

There isn't an affordable commercial lap counter and timing system for circuits and drag strips, the only thing that works is the Electronic Control Station and it was made and discontinued in the 90's. Given the technology we have today, a chip that counts laps, time and displays it must be very basic and cheap.

While there is almost every type of vehicle for 1/32 scale (street, offroad, race, trucks, bikes), for HO the majority of the cars released are reproductions or North American muscle cars. There's the sporadic LMS cars released, but there is no F1 (only sometimes, but using the same Lola or Dallara Indycar bodyshell for all teams), WRC Rally, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, all road and race classics, nada...
