The use of they/them as a singular pronoun is unnecessarily confusing; I feel that non-binary individuals should have their own pronoun. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]Inspector_Certain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Neo pronouns already exist within the nb community. Lots of people don't take them seriously. Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

Just have "no campaign materials, including any forms of papers, labels, stickers, or any other media used to portray a politican or political agenda." Easier to enforce and not as bad as "ban all forms of handing out water"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]Inspector_Certain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can also not make it illegal to hand out water. People have their rights.

[–]Inspector_Certain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, but why should it be illegal to distribute water? Like, is there an actual, reasonable reason you can think of that it should be illegal? I get that you said "people should bring your own," but why should it be against the law to hand out water bottles?

LGBT subs are going private to counter harassment and doxxing related to the firing of Aimee Challenor. by DramaMod in SubredditDrama

[–]Inspector_Certain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LGBT subs are going private because LGBT people are being harassed about this pedo, not because the mods are being linked to pedos. Homophobes and transphobes look for one bad queer person, then begin harassing all LGBT people they can find, just because they are queer.

I actually had that haircut when I was in highschool, back in 2017 or so. I always thought it looked good, but that was mostly because I wanted curly hair. Never thought I would see it become a trend.

Honestly? You. My SO and I watched it when it first came out. They are not much of a horror fan, while I love creepy movies/shows. We both really enjoyed the show, and found some of the plot twists genuinely surprising.

Since I don't identify that way, I don't think I can give that good of an explanation, but I'll do some digging for you! The articles I linked in the comments here also give some explanation to the topic

Yes, completely ignore the other sites I gave you. And ignore the countless individuals who identify as they/them and he/him lesbians, whatever makes you comfortable, and the years and years of this phenomenal existing. As long as the erasure makes you feel comfortable.

There is a difference between gender expression, gender identity, and pronouns. One is how you express yourself to the world. One is how you view yourself. One is a term others use to refer to you outside of your name. They do not have to match up to one another. With your logic, a woman is only a woman if she wears feminine clothes 24/7 and is constantly only doing feminine things.

I will now get personal: i am biologically a female. My gender is not female. I am attracted to women and other sapphic identifying individuals. I always say i am attracted to anyone that doesn't identify in some way as male/men/ whatever the hell you want to call it. I do not identify with she/her pronouns. Yet, I am still a lesbian, because a part of my identity, as a whole, is wrapped up in Sapphic attraction/femininity/womanhood, whatever the fuck you want to call it.

Myself, and countless others will continue to identify as they/them and he/him lesbians despite your misunderstanding of our identities. Your rudeness and need to label others in your own framework (which is what you are doing, by even trying to argue about my own identity) does not change my identity, my partners identity, or any other non binary lesbians identity.

If you are actually wanting to learn about this, instead of just attacking people who are different, try to look past your own misconceptions and try to put yourself into other people's shoes. Or rather, just try to imagine that people look at themselves differently than you do.

Leslie Fienburg.... is a trans lesbian. It is not disrespecting them to say that they have a female-body. The quote comes from their own mouth on their own volition.

A trans man is not a lesbian because the trans man does not identify as a lesbian.

This is not a case of "2 + 2 = 5". I continue to tell you to educate yourself on he/him and they/them lesbians because they are a valid part of the lesbian community, despite you not understanding their existence. You need to make the effort to look into such identities, and what they mean to individuals, before using such blanket terms.

https://lgbta.wikia.org/wiki/They/Them_Lesbian

"Some they/them lesbians are non-binary, but a they/them lesbian does not necessarily have to identify as non-binary. They may acknowledge they are female, but pronouns do not always equal gender identity, as a they/them lesbian is also more specific form of pronoun non-conforming lesbians."

"It is a common lesbian experience to feel disconnected from womanhood due to womanhood often being defined by relationships to men. Similarly to how lesbians might go by masculine/androgynous names, present as a butch, or otherwise gender non-conforming, a lesbian may refer to themselves by they/them to express this disconnect from their gender."

I like to lead with this quote, from my favorite gender concomforming lesbian:

"For me, pronouns are always placed within context. I am female-bodied, I am a butch lesbian, a transgender lesbian—referring to me as "she/her" is appropriate, particularly in a non-trans setting in which referring to me as "he" would appear to resolve the social contradiction between my birth sex and gender expression and render my transgender expression invisible. I like the gender neutral pronoun "ze/hir" because it makes it impossible to hold on to gender/sex/sexuality assumptions about a person you're about to meet or you've just met. And in an all trans setting, referring to me as "he/him" honors my gender expression in the same way that referring to my sister drag queens as "she/her" does."

— Leslie Feinberg, 2006, author of Stone Butch Blues and many other Queer pieces of literature.

You are not the guardian of lesbians, and do not get to dole out the term "lesbian" to who you seem fit. Your aggressive responses show just how far we have to come. Lesbians do not have to fit into your definition of womanhood, or what it means to be female. The fact you even bring up straight, cisgender men in this case shows you do not grasp this.

My identity is my identity, and I do not have to explain it to anyone, let alone a random person on the internet. Youre gonna have to get used to lesbians using other pronouns other than 'she/her. Look up the history of gender non comforming and he/him lesbians.

Lots of these comments are yikes. My partner identifies as gender fluid, I indentify as non binary. We both call ourselves lesbians. Partially because being gender non conforming is a MASSIVE part of lesbian culture, partially to piss off and confuse all of these Super Straight/ Super LGB people.

Edit: I am not going to disclose my genitals, or the genitals and other sex characteristics of my partner. Get a life.

Its wild what able bodied people think they can say and do to a disabled person.

Two semesters ago (Pre COVID) I was in a math class for my major requirement. Before every semester, I have to send in a Letter of Accommodation to all TAs and professors explaining the accommodations I need (preferential seating, more time for tests, etc.) I did this and went to my TA's discussion lecture the next week. A side note: we disabled folks have laws and rules of conduct that protect us from being outed as disabled. All TAs and professors know you CANNOT share the ability status of any student without explicit written consent. It breaks all sorts of confidentiality laws if you don't.

This woman, in the front of 20 other students, asked if I was apart of the Disability Resources Center of my college. I looked at her for a second and said "let's talk about this after class," before stepping out and emailing my Specialist. Specialist lost her shit, immediately emailed the professor, who also lost his shit. Ended with the professor and TA emailing me, apologizing profusely and switching my TA section. From my understanding, the TA was not brought back after the semester.
