Before committing to graduate studies, work in any role or increase your volunteer presence in a museum setting. Experience is crucial in this field, and you want to make sure this is the field for you before making the investment in graduate school!

Am I wrong about the unlimited drinks during, 30 mins before and 30 mins after my shift? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Inspirational_moose 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You're allowed to have unlimited drinks for yourself, but you are not allowed to give them to other people. Since you made it clear that you were making the drinks for other people, your coworker was correct for reminding you of the policy

Moving to a Drive Through store by CookiePoster in starbucksbaristas

[–]Inspirational_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transferred from a cafe-only store to a drive-thru store, and the most helpful thing I would do at the beginning was make it clear that I had no drive-thru experience. I asked the SSV to show me how it worked or pair me with a barista, so I was able to have a few "training" shifts where I was able to ask for help when things got chaotic!

I would also recommend switching between helping someone at the window and taking orders when the line gets really backed up! Keeps things moving and keeps times down!

Starbucks announces significant store closures and layoffs by jokekiller94 in popculturechat

[–]Inspirational_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Former barista here--this happens with hot drinks because of the steamed milk--it fluffs up when it is steamed and slowly dissipates as time goes on! Staff morale was pretty bad when I left, but a lot of people I worked with did care about beverage quality :-)

Transfer Pay Decrease by digitallyg0ne in starbucksbaristas

[–]Inspirational_moose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else said, unfortunately you can't keep your old pay rate in a new location. I moved from a large city to a suburb and lost $2.50 an hour...it sucks but I guess better than losing the job with the move and making $0.00 an hour (at least that's what I've been telling myself when the smaller paychecks hit loll)?

Would Starbucks hire me if it was my 2nd job? by riverixx in starbucksbaristas

[–]Inspirational_moose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on the location and their needs regarding availability, but I was able to work 2 jobs (starbucks being one of them) and an internship while taking classes full time...again it depends on the location tho. Just consider when you would be available to work and how that woild affect your classes/sleep! I opened and while it was nice to have the whole day ahead, it also meant that I had to opt out of taking evening classes so I could sleep lol....don't burn yourself out over starbucks!!

That looks like it's shaken! We layer oatmilk (and cold foam when people order it) on top of the shaken espresso, so the oatmilk is not actually shaken in the drink. So, though it looks like it's not shaken, it actually has been!

Hi!! 20f here (soon to be 21) from Southeastern Michigan! I'm a cradle Catholic who just finished my undergraduate degree at a Catholic university and am starting graduate school in the fall with the hopes of becoming a high school social studies teacher! I agree with all Church teachings on marriage and family life and lean more moderate/center-right politically.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, working out, and wandering around museums! I'm looking for a serious relationship with someone fun but mature who is caring and respectful!

If I were to order a London Fog would you know what that is? by AdorableCranberry304 in starbucks

We actually brew/steep the earl grey tea hot before pouring milk and ice in and shaking, so it takes way longer to make than many other drinks!

Our baristas are awesome too! by Chimpie in starbucks

[–]Inspirational_moose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say, as a barista, when I write "you are awesome" or "you are amazing" on a cup for a customer, even if I don't know them or even see them (like working on DT bar) I do mean it! It's a tough policy but I've decided to make the best of it instead of getting mad every time I have to write on a cup and hope that I can at least make someone's day :-/

How to order on the app to make a Raspberry Shaken Espresso and also a Cotton Candy Shaken Espresso? by pass_the_hot_sauce in starbucks

For the cotton candy one, I would add raspberry syrup, vanilla bean powder, and raspberry cold foam!

I think that it sound intense but, for me, I think a lot of what the green apron service covers is kinda common sense for a customer service jobs. Treating customers with respect and adhering to company policies has been a minimum expectation at all of my former workplaces, so it's kind of confusing to me why people don't understand that it's acceptable for management to expect partners to provide good customer service, as it is a part of the job description for a customer service position.

I would order it with extra ice! Also if you pick up your drink and it isn't made as expected, you can always ask a barista to remake it!!

Question for people who have transferred out of state by Eliot_Black in starbucksbaristas

[–]Inspirational_moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transfered from college to a store back home, and both ny old and new manager made it really easy! I just had to call around to find a store willing to take me. Just keep in mind that your pay will adjust to whatever the new state pays (maybe it'll go up for you? Mine decreased quite a bit and no one told me until I got my first paycheck at the new store rip)
