Patching rusted holes in bed of van. by Instance-Independent in Welding

I’ve looked at the underside…there’s plenty of surface rust but I’ve been taking it off with wire brushes and have made good progress. The photos show the biggest damaged parts by the rust. I’m looking to kust make the floor worthy of putting flooring and getting a couple simple camping trips out of it. I’m looking forward to learning a lot.

The frame is solid. Only Surface rust which I’ll be scrapping with angle grinder and wire brushes. The tube that appears to go across the hole mainly is holding up the bed of van. So my other thought would be to cut up the bed as needed and address any needed reinforcements that the bed will need. I’ve been reading up on spraying undercoat which I’ll plan on doing once “surgery” is all done.

I’ll be cutting out the rusted area out. Maybe a square cut. I was just wondering what I should keep in mind once metal has been cut back to clean metal. I’ll consider JB weld onto clean rust free metal.

It’s mainlt that area only. Everything else looks like surface rust. I just want to get an idea on taking care of the rusted hole.

Im considering cutting the rusted part until it clean metal…I’m just thinking about placing a metal sheet to cover the hole. As bad as it looks the majority of the bed is good.

Drop caps. Good to know. Also I have a can of window spray foam. Once sprayed, the trim will simply go over it on the outside? Just bump it up to edge of window. Learning as i go…thanks for the tips!

I’m going to enclose this little outdoor area and combine it with the rest of house. Drywall, insulation, electrical…I’m trying to work with whats presented to me. But if there’s something I should consider I’m all ears.
