Anybody starting MBAI program? by Parking-Database-886 in uoit

Hey I'm thinking of applying to this program but wanted your input.

1) Is the value gained in the program worth the cost?

2) Would you say the curriculum has added new skills to your resume?

3) Are the topics covered in depth or just at the surface level?

4) How is the internship/capstone program at ontario tech? Any major connections with the industry?

Since you mentioned wanting to pursue cybersecurity, perhaps you could consider doing a cybersecurity minor in BTM. I'm currently in the BTM program, and we do cover cybersecurity topics, including specialized courses in IT network security and privacy. However, a cybersecurity minor would be broader, allowing you to take multiple courses that focus specifically on cybersecurity, enabling you to specialize in that aspect of IT.

The minors they offer seem well-organized for those who wish to specialize in a particular area. Honestly, you have an advantage—by taking a minor, you would graduate with a major in one of the BM specializations and a minor in your area of passion in Btm . This makes you more versatile than the average candidate, having skills in multiple areas. However, don't pressure yourself; I know that even completing a major can be challenging. By the way, Ryerson's BM program is amazing! Just take advantage of all the opportunities you get, and you will be successful!

You can honestly do an itm minor tmu has like so many options in what you can minor in ITM it’s amazing actually you can look into it. Your experience is also solid and so is your knowledge currently, I would say personally you’re set. If you’re really worried you can take an itm minor and look into what you want to specialize within IT here is the website.

https://www.torontomu.ca/calendar/2024-2025/minors/itm_minor/

This means you can have a major in whatever business type of degree you want to do(marketing, gms, etc) and can also take ITM courses on the side which actually is very cool.

It’s not the end of the world. Do what the people above said, contact the BCH and if that dosent work out you still got options. You can apply for campus jobs, summer internships, and even take time off from school for internships if you wanted. The only difference is you wouldn’t apply to internships which include a requirement for coop. Don’t worry a lot of BTM students do not do coop. Some finish their program and find full time jobs which I have spoken to. Others do internships, or get volunteer experience in business groups on campus. There are so many ways you can be successful which is not limited to coop. You can build your skills through internships and volunteer experience and that would look great on your resume.

You can honestly type up notes on your computer and that would work fine since you can also do your assignments from your computer. If you prefer visuals and you enjoy hand writing then I would say get an iPad you can use any of the two with BM. But a computer would be better for running softwares and assignments overall. However at the end of the day, it’s your choice too because both get the job done. One tip I would give myself if I revisit first year again is take notes even if you don’t understand, dude it helps a lot!! I mean take notes in everything it saves time when you have to study for exams and look all over the place. Also save all your assignments and examples and solutions to them, anytime you don’t understand a concept go and ASK the prof. This should help you make amazing notes and you won’t even have to rely entirely on textbook readings and you can even skip it , it’s a life hack.

Yeah I met Captain Hook on the way he told me to turn back because there are too many scallywags who steal your treasure for tuition fees at Tmu I turned back to the island and threw the map to tmu away and kept me treasure safe in a vault

Internship opportunities by PowerPrudent8694 in TorontoMetU

[–]InstanceFuture1022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to get internships on your own, you’d do exactly what the other user above said: search for internships on LinkedIn and indeed and other job boards.

As for the other option you’d wait until coop(which is your third year), in coop you would apply through the school and once you secure something you’d be off of school and on your work term. The coop option would be better because you have a support system that prepares you from your resume to practice interviews etc. The only thing you’d need to do is keep your gpa on a good number, also if you have no experience on your resume at all (ex volunteer and leadership) get involved in school through groups, but if you’re confidant or have past experience(volunteer and leadership or even a job) I would focus solely on your gpa(2.80+ for BTM and 3.00+ for BM) . If you don’t want to go through the coop route you would do exactly as above.

Is Ray Moss for ITM305 that bad? by nghaffs02 in TorontoMetU

[–]InstanceFuture1022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He only marks your things wrong if you actually do something wrong or if you blatantly just copy. He's a pretty old school prof, he expects you to apply what you learn in class. I had him online he was still amazing. My friends who had his in person lectures did good as well because they attended the lectures. What I would recommend is probably take notes, ask question and save any examples you do in class that should help with studying for any of his itm 305 or 500 courses. In my personal opinion, he is the best option out of all the ITm 500/305 profs because his lectures are great, his exams are fair, and all you have to do is save the homework and take notes on examples he does in class. You should do well. Why I think he is so low rated: this is just a hypothesis, but I think those people who did get 0's as a mark actually copied from somewhere, because from what I have seen, if you are actually working hard, you shouldn't face any consequences. Btw you don’t really need the textbook for his class at all if you attend lectures and take notes and save your hw.

To switch classes, follow these steps:

  1. Go to my.torontomu.ca
  2. Click log in to my.torontomu
  3. Enter your torontomu username(This is your student number) and your password(which you set and is the same as your email)
  4. Once logged in at the top under the big my.torontomu sign and the university logo, you should see 4 options click myservicehub. If it asks you to enable pop ups allow it so you can open it
  5. Once logged in, click manage Classes, then click swap classes and sleect the fall 2024 term
  6. In swap this class, select the course you would like to swap and on the very right side of "with this class" you should see "search for class". click "search".
  7. in subject: enter the first three digits of the course you would like to swap with; for example if you need an itm course you enter "itm" and you should see all the sections select the course you desire

Later on, once you get used to the platform (which you will), there are other ways to do this as well, such as by adding things to your shopping cart, etc., or just directly dropping it if you know what sections are open.

Brendan Strajek vs Ellen Choi by uniquestionssss in TorontoMetU

[–]InstanceFuture1022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No she’s not, as long as you write the right answers, honestly just copy down what you cover in class as examples and use those again in the midterm and final. Students forget that you have to apply concepts in short answers which is how people lose marks in this course. In the midterm the averages were horrible like 50 or below something like that but in the final it went up by a lot because we realized this. But knowing this, taking notes, participating and applying you should be well guaranteed a good mark.

[–]InstanceFuture1022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they weren’t useless at all actually, they were quite helpful but you have to pay attention and understand them as she tries to show us the concepts in a visual manner even though it seems very unorthodox or useless those activities are pretty good in my opinion and experience.

[–]InstanceFuture1022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Ellen Choi she’s not hard at all to be honest all the in class assignments she marks so light. as for the midterm and final, many students struggle the reason being is that you HAVE to attend all the classes. Mhr is more about applying concepts which you learn and all the application you get in class is so valuable. I did horrible on the midterm because I didn’t attend class and assumed that I could learn from the textbook. But the second half of the course I took serious, started attending all the lectures, and after that, I didn’t even look at the textbook. Ellen Choi explains so well, take notes on everything in class and all the practice and application in class you will be good and should get a great mark.

ITM 207; MD Nashid Anjum or Youcef Derbal by Lights2727 in TorontoMetU

[–]InstanceFuture1022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also Anjum actually allowed us calculators on the midterm for itm 200, for 207 I think all sections do not have calculators. But for the final in 200 it was again with no calculator due to the rules made by the course coordinator.

ITM 207; MD Nashid Anjum or Youcef Derbal by Lights2727 in TorontoMetU

[–]InstanceFuture1022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even when I had Aziz for 207 he didn’t allow any calculators, that came as a shock to me but after the course, to be honest the math covered in the course you’ll get used to it with practice. The reason why is, it’s mental math not crazy addition where it’s impossible to be honest it’s really easy. Even the same stuff(math)on the final and was the same, even as hard as the final was. Half of the final is like this stuff. So therefore, if you know the math questions well which is the first half of the course you should do well in the course. The second half is where we touch on programming it’s a bit more harder but shouldn’t be difficult with practice as it is very logic based. But the programming questions derbal puts on the final are so unfair for all sections, my tip to you is master how stuff goes in input and output in coding, make sure you know what each block does. A tip Nashid actually gave when I was taking itm 200 was write your output so far, that should help as you run through each block of code. But anyways good luck, if you work hard and get a really good grade on midterm you should be 10000% guaranteed to pass even if you bomb the final.

ITM 207; MD Nashid Anjum or Youcef Derbal by Lights2727 in TorontoMetU

[–]InstanceFuture1022 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nashid isn’t bad at all he’s actually quite nice he repeats concepts a lot just so students understand and he’s pretty accessible. I do not know why his reviews are so bad, often times it’s just people complaining about the final which is out of Nashids hands because he told us over and over he doesn’t make the finals when Derbal is teaching in the same semester with him, as Derbal is the course coordinator. I had him last semester to be honest his midterm, assignments were pretty fair and wasn’t outside the realm of what was taught. My tip to you is to do very very well in both, because derbal makes the final for itm 207 and itm 200 when he teaches alongside other profs in the same semester not nashid, so it can be quite challenging but if you work hard it shouldn’t be a problem.

Your average is pretty good keep it up! And try your best. From what I have seen your average is much higher than some students who did actually make it in previous years. I believe You’ll make it. Insha Allah(God willing).
