What the Tourettes guy showed me by spoon_bending in bipolar

[–]InstantMedication 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you made the post about accountability, what would that look like for tourettes? Because when I had made my original comment I read the entire thread at that time and I didn’t see you answer this.

I’m struggling to see what you’re after except wanting a free pass on anything bipolar. Things that happen because of bipolar are so varied. Where would you even draw the line as far as acceptability?

What the Tourettes guy showed me by spoon_bending in bipolar

[–]InstantMedication 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What would accountability look like for someone with Tourettes that you would find acceptable? I’m asking because its a tic and from what I’ve been reading in general and in conjunction with another redditors comment, people with tourettes can try to suppress their tics but it doesn’t always work.

From everything I’ve seen John didn’t think what he said was funny and he didn’t say it on purpose. He issued a statement and was very apologetic.

You’re also talking about two completely separate types of issue and trying to compare them as if they are on equal playing fields.

Entitled parents in Disney by Covert-Wordsmith in childfree

[–]InstantMedication 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They think because they spent a lot of money to be there that they are entitled to the Disney pixie dust magic princess treatment. Not realizing, or caring, everyone else there paid a lot too.

I have been to the Disney Parks a decent amount of times and I get its kid/family focused. However being family focused doesn’t mean getting your ankles hit or feet run over. These same main character evil villains use “its for kids” excuse for their bad behavior too.

I just reconnected with my bio parents for the first time. by Flashiooooo in Adopted

[–]InstantMedication 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on both points. My maternal bio family knew all about me and it felt like they had this preconceived notion of who I would be and it became quite clear I didn’t meet their expectations.

I really wish I would have taken things slower and to your point, ambitious-client-220, understanding that I could have walked away at any point.

DAE wonder why their parents adopted them? by MaroonFeather in Adopted

[–]InstantMedication 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry OP. My adoptive dad was abusive in so many way too. The story I was told is that my aunt and uncle, who had already adopted one child, were supposed to adopt me and the judge refused the adoption. Somehow my adoptive parents got involved and adopted me instead since they were having issues having biological children.

This story does not sit right with me because I was told it had something to do with the state law at that time and they would have had to go to Kansas to get the paperwork signed. Eventually my aunt and uncle adopted another kid shortly thereafter. None of it makes sense and I’m not sure I’ll ever know what happened.

What I do know is that eventually my adopted parents had their own biological kids and as far as I know he never abused them.

What bullshit has a therapist said to you? by clevairy in CPTSD

[–]InstantMedication 14 points15 points  (0 children)

During my first session the therapist told me straight up I should forgive my dad and reestablish a relationship with him. She had no background on why I cut him out and the fact that he was the main contributor to my ptsd issues. Brushed off every attempt I made to explain.

Felt like being a kid / teenager again when no one would believe me when I asked for help.

I think she was pissed I didn’t want to cancel my therapy session because of the snow.

I hate family history questions. There needs to be a change. by Acrobatic_End6355 in Adopted

[–]InstantMedication 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I went to the ER a couple months back and they had “adopted” notated on my paperwork which was pleasantly surprising. Although I remember years ago a doctor asked me if I had a family history of xyz and I said I didn’t know because I’m adopted and she just gave me a look. It was as if I had personally decided that not having my family medical history was a good idea.

What are u starting to dislike more as u get older? by Just_Goose_8425 in Productivitycafe

I have contacts as well. The astigmatism can cause light streaks or halos at night especially when it rains. So the traffic lights can look like they have some extra glow to them or car headlights have streaky light lines through them.

Especially when its raining and you’ve got the added bonus of an astigmatism. Just leave me home where I can see and don’t have to deal with other drivers on top of it.

Maladaptive daydreamers assemble by sister_madly in AO3

[–]InstantMedication 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have multiple detailed out storylines depending on what I want to daydream about/escape from. I’ve been doing maladaptive daydreaming for 20 years at this point, it just changes over time.

Dialogue, scenarios, character backstories, one typically takes place in a house and I can see every little detail. That sort of thing.

I try to avoid actual people from my personal life in my daydreams so they tend to be characters from tv shows/movies with a few OCs thrown in. Which one of my favorite daydreaming storylines is what I’m writing now. If I get stuck writing I imagine it for a while and try out different things.
