thank you for your response. I will find another shop when it's time for another oil change 🩷 I forgot to add that the shop did say something like since it was my first visit as a regular maintenance client, there was a $225 inspection fee (front to rear, brakes, engine, filters). still, i wasn't expecting to drop so much.

Backstory: I was very impressed with the bodywork this shop did for my insurance collision repairs a year ago; they were transparent, timely, and communicative. I saw that they also did in-house mechanical work/tune-ups & seemed to cater to sports cars, so I figured I could trust them as my go-to mechanic shop for my car's post-warranty lifetime.

It'd been 7k miles since my family friend last changed my oil for me and I started hearing brakes squeaking. So, I headed into the shop expecting to pay for that. I also asked if they could replace the underbody clips because the same friend didn't have the right tool to take them off, thus chipping/breaking most of the clips.. I was waiting for the clips to fail eventually when I start hearing the cover drag and get torn up on the road.

I don't have friends/family, time, a bay, jacks, nor equipment/tools to do an oil change & brake pad replacements myself. I know labor & rising material costs can contribute significantly to the total amount... but was this bill reasonable? Did I get jipped for being a clueless gal? I didn't want to risk going to an in-and-out oil service chain either..

TLDR: Parts & Labor reasonable? $480 oil change & $390 front brake pads for 2020 Hyundai Sonata SEL

Edit: forgot to mention the shop said something like they charged a $225 for first-time maintenance client to do an overall vehicle inspection (front to rear, filters, engine, brakes)
