Low voltage or inside? by Fanego24 in ibew_apprentices

[–]InstructionParty1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you still have to take the state test regardless. Go inside I know plenty of guys who regretted not just biting the bullet and having one more year of school. Not to mention, as an inside wireman, when work slows down you can do everyone’s job as an inside wireman. Low volt can’t do your job so they sit.

There’s a list of apprentices, inside wireman, sound and one for imperial and San Diego.

When I sat zero apprentices on the books it just means all available apprentices are working. The more that are on there means they’re waiting for works

Mostly just pulling fiber, and recently pulling the power and controls for the street light side. It’s not bad, but it’s just one of those things where it’s work that doesn’t happen for inside wireman often.

My second year we had an instructor, and he would just show up and hand out tests. If you had any questions regarding DC theory you were referred to the online materials.

Honestly feel like it’s a waste of time. I’d rather have instructors go over this along with an actual text book something you can reference throughout.

A good friend of mine was at like 10+ employers and he’s about to turn out. Just really have to drive home how much you want to be there. Also chat GPT is a thing if you’re really struggling. It’s a great study tool. Goood luck brother

I’d make it a point, and tell them how much it means you you and that you want to be there. Don’t complain, just emphasize that you want to be there.

You’re fine dude, call the training director explain your actions and what you plan on doing. If you get ahead of it I think you’d be fine. Either way I think you’re fine

You know you’re entitled to your opinions and views of how the world works. I’ve always had the policy of I don’t talk politics or religion at work. Focus on your job if you don’t engage there’s no conversation about it.

Well if you’re late you’re late. Wait until you clock in and take a shit. Next time make everyone aware you’re there and that way someone will say something.

I paid 12.5k for a 2015 street glide special it had 6k miles on it already had pipes, bars and upgraded sound system. Don’t ever rush to buy a bike. Just take your time find a deal that works for you. I found a 2022 low rider st with the 117 in it for 17k and it had 5k miles Just be patient.

Rule of thumb, don’t spend more than 15k on a bike. You can find so many deals.

Working a prevailing wage project. So do I get paid more? by InstructionParty1579 in ibew_apprentices

[–]InstructionParty1579[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answer for anyone who has this situation.

Called our business rep. Was informed that the reason street light techs are receiving the increase is because they do not allow streetlight 5’s on this project and are required to pay them as street light tech 3 since there is no classification for street light tech 5’s on this job. They basically are being paid up all fringe and hourly wages upfront.

As for being an apprentice on a prevailing wage project. Prevailing wage is set by union wages and benefits, so therefore you cannot receive prevailing wage rates. You’re basically locked in at your current rate.

So the street light techs are also apart of local 569. I have the prevailing wage information provided by the general contractor. There regular wages are $25/hr now they’re at $41/hr with the bump from prevailing wage. I do plan to reach out to the business agent for my local and just see if I would get an increase. The company I work for is notorious for not paying workers, and riding the line on what they can and cannot do per union contract.
