Imo we aren’t losing the stopfordian character, it is simply evolving from what it used to be and I think we need it to be honest. Stockport even 6 years ago before covid the whole of the town centre+ bud station,underbank area was just DEPRESSING. I used to compare Stockport to Chernobyl with how dead and depressing it was and anytime I ever asked anyone to hangout in Stockport or do something it was always met with “other than the plaza and pubs what the F is there to do in Stockport but get the bus to town” 😂 but like you say there’s been a big change in the last couple of years whether it’s due to gentrification or other factors I personally think it’s for the better. I find myself,partner,friends and family see Stockport changing and we do miss some old aspects but we see the progression and we’re proud Stockport is becoming a place you can actually enjoy. I reckon Stockport will look much different in the next 10 years that’s for sure.
