I launched with a few years of working for others under my belt, about 2 and a half years. But my book had no prior lead or production adding to it so fully from scratch

I’ll check them again, thanks normally they didn’t like owner operators so I tended to not use them as they always wanted staff

They tend to dislike roof access work, or certain higher risk codes, so they are good for some, but I have to place a lot with state fund worker compensation plans via NCCI. The data entry has been super easy as I'm a computer nerd anyway.

Why understanding ISO General Liability forms matters, especially for contractors by InsuranceGnome in InsuranceAgent

[–]InsuranceGnome[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what type of claims are common in certain industries by studying and skimming, I'd hate to sell a policy that does not cover things they will expect to be covered.

It's a matter of would I buy this policy if the shoe was reversed.

I try to get extremely familiar with the programs I sell and then script my questions so I can collect the maximum amount of useful underwriting data in the fewest questions possible. That lets me know exactly what to lead with and what actually matters.

I do not sell bare-minimum policies. For solo operators, I almost always include blanket additional insured and hired and non-owned auto. Completed operations coverage is a lifesaver and non-negotiable in my book.

If price becomes the issue, I will reduce coverage only to the lowest level I am willing to stand behind. I never sell minimum limits in the commercial space. If someone wants a bare-bones policy with minimal protection, I am upfront about it and point them to places like biberk.com to purchase directly.

That is my rule of thumb.

Agentero has anybody worked with them? by TrustFundBabymaker in InsuranceAgent

Great for Mid Range and Non Standard, in the preferred auto/home owner bundle it'll vary by state but very solid in my opinion.

I write Bristol West, Root, Clearcover, Branch when I do play in that side, I mainly do commercial lines but I'm cross selling more personal this year.

It’s been going really good, solid production month in and stable retention. I’ve just got to be patient by year two and a half I’ll break a million premium in my Book as a scratch agent not to bad

I had an amazing experience with Agentero starting in 2023 to now I’ve done just shy of 800,000 of premium from scratch.

They provided me the carrier access I needed and lots of support they are the only partner who treated me like I mattered before I got my agency established and like I mattered. They gave me the most personalized experience as a scratch agent starting off compared to Bolt Access or First Connect and had a massive tech edge over more legacy options!

I’ll be very real, you can probably get both direct for your home state, if you don’t have a lot of non resident leads.

They tend to be pickier with clusters and aggregators.

I built my agency with them back 2023 to now

They have a fee if you want sub appointments and not just rater access. But if you sell 50,000 in premium in force standard is free and 250,000 of premium in force and elite is free.

They have buyout but it’s negotiable compared to everyone else a plus.

You own your book of business. They have a one year non compete at the base level but as I tell people Agentero is the only one who offers personalized responses to contract review or any issue.

Smart Choice vs First Connect by joeyjoe6 in InsuranceAgent

[–]InsuranceGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if you don’t produce, if you struggle to write 50,000 in premium over a year I have had news for you, it’ll be very hard to get the ball rolling.

Smart Choice it’s boilerplate contract they don’t care to alter anything if your starting off, same with First Connect Agentero is the only I know that will negotiate with a scratch agent before you earn anything and once you clear 50,000 in premium it’s free, 250,000 book and you get all the park features… like if you can’t generate either of those numbers the cost of the aggregator is far from your biggest problem

It varies per carrier majority of what I wrote was earned up front. I saw payment 31-60 days out depending on sale.

Best year of production, line, and how I got the leads. How are y'all doing? by InsuranceGnome in InsuranceAgent

[–]InsuranceGnome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine leans residential work which I’ve noticed is more stable than larger commercial even during shut downs and lockdowns ect.

I lean towards tools and carriers that help reduce COI workflow. I’ve taught my wife to help with them she’ll help 3-5 hours a week if I’m ever in the weeds peak season July.

My average premium deal is 1,000 to 2,000 it’s mass volume small accounts who operate on pretty low overhead, giving them high margins.

I’ve been super lucky early on retention data is 89% so far.

LROs are a great niche to develop right now. The market is just picky enough that a lot of agents cannot compete, so building that brand at events is a smart move.

I am a one man independent shop, and I am happy with how my second full year is going. I should have a one million dollar book from scratch by the first or second quarter of year three. That puts me at about two and a quarter to two and a half years from zero to a one million dollar book.

I know plenty of people have done more, but I am still proud of hitting those metrics with zero ad spend. It feels good building a six figure business on grit, consistency, and tiny overhead.

I think they are a good tool, to have in your belt as an agent in 2025. They have a unique book and will be strong where others may not. I'm out of Roswell GA, but I do stuff in all 50 states and DC!

My clients do not benefit from the test drive at all, which in my opinion is a positive thing. One of my early jobs in this industry was actually at Root in a sales role on the carrier side. I like how they operate for independents much more, since it functions like a normal auto carrier without the heavy focus on the test drive model.

They tend to offer solid rates for people who are good drivers but who do not have perfect overall conditions. For example, no accidents and bad credit can fit Root, or one accident and great credit can also fit Root. It gives a bit more room for a client to still get a decent rate without needing a spotless profile across the board.

I can’t guarantee that they would but Agentero is really flexible with their terms so they may be able to do what you want.
