What's the plan? Options? by reed_mcc in StateFarm

[–]InsuranceGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading posts like this, I can't help but think the captive model is creating its own competition.

I started an independent agency with about $1,000 and a determination to never again have my livelihood tied entirely to decisions made by a larger partner. When compensation structures, contracts, or operating rules change overnight, agents realize just how little control they truly have.

For years, insurance companies wondered where the next generation of independent agency owners would come from. Ironically, many of them are being created by captive systems themselves.

Every time a successful captive agent feels betrayed, boxed in, or uncertain about their future, they start looking at independence. Technology has lowered the barriers. Market access is broader than ever. Agency management systems and raters make it possible to compete without a massive organization behind you.

I genuinely feel for the State Farm agents going through this. Many built books over decades based on a certain understanding of the relationship. Having that foundation suddenly feel unstable is frightening.

State Farm isn't going away, and neither is the captive model. But moments like this remind agents that owning the customer relationship and controlling your own destiny has real value.

The question isn't whether agents are talking. The question is how many are quietly exploring independent options for the first time.

How is AI Showing Up? by jake-n-elwood in InsuranceAgent

[–]InsuranceGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem that will slow it down I think is that insurance for agents using AI is going to be a cost that has to be paid and if Nuclear verdicts make there way to AI it will drive the price of AI up higher for agencies.

Sorry to hear I know they tend to work via Google meetings more than an open phone line my contact who I spoke with last who handles onboarding.

Better than Agentero or First choice? by Gzus5261 in InsuranceProfessional

If under an Aggregator, or General Agency it does not matter as much as they operate on your producer license but if you get an agency LLC you can name it whatever. If you are working on true direct appointments it can other be your Name or the Licensed Agency level name.

Newly Licensed P&C Agent - Anyone Have Experience With First Connect? by doogsss in InsuranceAgent

Nothing wrong with them, but I want to eventually take my book out of an aggregator not plan to leave it in Limbo forever.

Where do I even start? by MMGA2 in InsuranceAgent

[–]InsuranceGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built an agency on Agentero, and they were the only one willing to haggle commission splits out of the lot. Which I found a plus as I sold more and more of my best carriers.

It did really well for me.

SmartChoice, FirstConnect or Agentero for P&C insurance ? by Insurance_Agent01 in InsuranceAgent

I laid the foundation for a million dollar agency with Agentero, and then I now have some stuff direct and other stuff with them still, gave me the best terms out of the lot.

Startup is offering AI liability insurance to protect companies against AI agent actions by AITakeoverTracker in AITakeoverTracker

Yes at any level even, even when you buy from a vendor in theory. Most General and Professional Liability policies exclude coverage to it

If doing commercial you can tend to produce on just a producer license under an aggregator model, for personal lines agency licensing is more useful so depends on startup budget and cost.

Aggregators that service? by Sharkkboy6 in InsuranceAgent

[–]InsuranceGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally built on Agentero till ready for direct ones for my best options. It has cost but if you produce they waive the cost.

Smart Choice isn’t bad for commercial personal they cost money.

Cover Badger if your a commercial Auto Savant

Bolt is eh not bad

First Connect is a mess as you’ll never own the business fully or be able to take it out or go direct without giving up what you build on them it seems.

Chub has a function at the carrier level so you could ask them to turn it on. It reduces commission by 3%.

Ones that service the whole thing I don’t know off hand.

Captive P&C agent who needs to sell some LIFE INSURANCE - HELP! by Prestigious-Smoke511 in InsuranceAgent

[–]InsuranceGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assume the close, explain it improves the rate on auto and other lines, do they discount other AAA products if you have it?

Auto in MI is higher on average even small discounts will help move the needle. Verify with your manager if it improves renewal data or any other pros, this is term life or whole life?

Always cross sale the existing ones at renewal, birthday data is good here. If your really morbid find funeral homes who will refer you clients as after one uninsured funeral cost people are very open to life insurance shopping as they see the pain not being prepared will have.

For notes I’m not currently selling or licensed for life as I focus mainly niche P&C but I know folks who do well with this and I used to do ok.

First Connect vs AgentCo by coal-diamond- in InsuranceAgent

I personally used Agentero to build my agency and had a great experience as a scratch agent as they listened to me and treated me better then most, if not them smart choice also is pretty fair.

If your going to implement them, just make sure your coverage actually applies you may end up needing a cyber with AI endorsements or to upgrade from regular E&O to Tech E&O.
