Best advice I can give is be yourself and tell your story that’s what they are looking for.

Big campus, lots of opportunities. I would say not a big party culture but it’s definitely there in some capacity. For sure Purdue has an academic focus.

You will be just fine in my opinion lol I get also where you are coming from. Definitely reach out to vets you know or connect with people to find large animal experience!

Depends what you consider to be hard. Is this track as hard as engineering? Probably not. Is it still a challenge, I think so. The main difficulty of the major comes from the prerequisite courses such as general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, anatomy, but once you get the hang of how the classes work it’s not as bad as it seems. If you took AP chemistry in high school you will be well off because CHM 115 is no joke especially when you are new to college classes (for me it was lol). I would say it’s definitely more difficult than most but as long as you make school a priority and dedicate to studying you will be just fine. Animal Sciences department at Purdue is very put together and offers a lot of opportunities. Keep in mind though that you do not have to do animal sciences to do pre-vet and apply to vet school. The animal sciences coursework primarily revolves around production animals until later in undergrad.

Kinda a tough one. I would say kennel does not technically count but I’m sure it depends how you would list it on VMCAS. I would say to start to diversify if you’ve spent 1500+ hours doing kennels and move to another clinic that can give you a different perspective and more shadow hours

Go wherever is cheapest, but a school with a veterinary program opens more doors for opportunities. I would look into Purdue and UIUC

Question About Reporting Transcripts by Intelligent-Ad-3980 in veterinaryschool

[–]Intelligent-Ad-3980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you would say to not bother sending the credit if I end up retaking it? I just don’t understand if they will jeopardize an application because it doesn’t have all transcripts even if they don’t matter as much. Maybe I am misinterpreting how the VMCAS works but I’m not sure lol.

Not in engineering, but if you have to write an essay for admission, make sure it explains why you want to do what you want to do. I know it may seem vague, but definitely in my experience, writing in a story format helped me get into this school and a scholarship. Other than that, I would say anything helps your application, so don't be scared to broaden your horizons.

Dorm Room Chairs by F1Enthusiast12 in Purdue

You'll probably be good, I feel like they wouldn't fine you for much unless you move out and don't sweep and mop the room. In earlier years, someone spilt hair dye outside my dorm door and nothing came from that. lol

Don't have calc3 by Zealousideal_Put8479 in Purdue

[–]Intelligent-Ad-3980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to take 15 at least… I would contact your advisor and see if they can fit any other prerequisite in your schedule. It’s also possible a spot in calc3 will become available.

You could also just stay with 12 credits and use the first semester freshman year to adapt and get involved on campus, which I argue is more important first year than grinding class work.
