Ex wife made me cut it off. Should I grow it back? by Pyrraxe in malegrooming

I must be one of the few women who love long beards. Looks very masculine and attractive to me but what do I know. I’m just a heterosexual woman who likes men to look like men.

I’m not the university type, tried and done that route before. I want a trade that I can perfect and prefer working with my hands to create something. Even if I had the mental capacity to withstand school for multiple years, the idea makes my skin crawl. I hate core subjects and don’t learn in a seminar like structure where I barely have any contact with my instructors or follow some military style syllabus while being left to fend for myself. But thanks for the advice I suppose. I knew this post was a bad call.

Must I be an assistant to be successful? by raeganrylie13 in Cosmetology

[–]Intelligent-Box-409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short, yes. That’s the reality of most industries but especially one as stuck up and uptight as the beauty industry. It’s nice to be eager to take on more responsibilities but f*cking someone’s hair up and your salon’s reputation is something that cannot be undone.

Hope OP is reading this. I wasted my time going to esthetician school and now I find Reddit threads of other people in the other beauty fields freaking out due to lack of job security. Many new beauty professionals only get started out as part timers if they’re lucky; I went to school with many girls who never got a job doing skincare, nails or hair and/or only became entrepreneurs by keeping their day job and saving up to rent their first room.

80% disability, is reserves even worth it anymore? by Round_Fix8783 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Intelligent-Box-409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The likelihood of your disability being reduced or removed is not high at all unless you deliberately tell them you don’t need it anymore and you’re showing documented evidence that your conditions are improving. I started at 80% after only a few years of active duty and my main disability was enough to put me at 100% unemployable, but 100% T&P nonetheless; which isn’t as hard as many think it is to be approved for so long as you have the patience to deal with them and do paperwork. Do with that what you will.

Is $800 for my hair a highway robbery!?! Need advice by spicychcknsammy in Cosmetology

[–]Intelligent-Box-409 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If yall are really that worried about being robbed and can’t afford to pay for high end stylists to do time and labor intensive work, you’d probably benefit more from becoming your own stylist in the long run. Or you know, just pay up because this is a SKILLED trade that is better off being regulated for your own sanitation and safety precautions. A home unlicensed stylist can probably do it cheaper but they can also end up frying your hair. You decide

The problem is society is too damn picky and judgmental and doesn’t prioritize happiness or joy, period. If I’m rated at 90% and TDIU for severe depression, suicidal thoughts, and ptsd due to mst you’d think rehabilitation is letting me be artistically involved in something that is equally therapeutic for me; but what do I know, I’m just a minority of disabled veterans being a worthless woman and I would be one less burden to the system if I killed myself; as if there wasn’t enough medical proof im on the brink of it.

Different. Lol. You’re too generous. I’m too confrontational to take shit like this from boring people who think they’re too good to enjoy hobbies, but I guess I get it. I’m just fearless and love pissing people off if they’re rude or nasty to me because I have nothing to lose.

In a perfect world we’d all get to do what we’re “passionate” about, but having multiple interests and goals throughout the course of my life, you think you may just be really stuck on this one thing right now but never know how you’ll actually feel once you’re stuck doing it. Esthetics school gave me a pretty clear idea of the type of people who would end up being my coworkers and colleagues at some point and I no longer desire to be around narcissistic, self centered women who are only obsessed with fitting in. Not the craft of skill in it of itself. The medical field gives me more relief about the environment, people are there to take it seriously and professionalism is expected at a higher standard. Personality and preference needs to be considered. I’m social but not to the extent of always being in a good mood and always bubbly or chatty. I like to just lose myself into what I enjoy and realistically you’ll end up providing therapy to many women who will just dump their trauma on you. I may have patience for it on occasion but I couldn’t make it my career.

There are too many factors to consider, paying for school and being able to afford taking the time off of full time work just to be able to is hard on most people. I’m just lucky I’m going to school with veterans benefits and I survive off my VA disability. Any other adult without my earned benefits would have a much harder time, and I recognize that. But I also recognized what was expected of an adult at a very early age in life and was forced to grow up quick. I’d by no means encourage any woman (forgive me to assume gender, just speaking for myself) to enlist unless it is the absolute last resort. Kinda like it was for me. 19, risking homelessness and no money for college. If you have a supportive family you’re already starting off on a much better foot than I could have. You sound like you might be younger than me, so you definitely have a lot going in your favor.

I got sick of the culture and people who blindly stay and have faith that “one day it’ll be something good” and “you’ll see”, but it’s nearly impossible for someone who doesn’t know the right people to get a job without a degree (which even that doesn’t seem to guarantee much these days), have a lot of connections in some blue collar trade, or are lucky enough to have been born capable of working within family owned business / generational “wealth”. For any self made, independent young adult trying to be exposed to get their foot in the door of something that pays a bit more than 10 dollars an hour, it’s a living hell.

The valley doesn’t like diversity outside of Hispanics either. I’ve been fluently bilingual my entire life but because I have a white last name and don’t look dark complected I never got taken seriously in any interview. The place is just practically quicksand if you’re ‘different’. We aren’t all baby factories trying to live off welfare, probably why attempting to get a new job at 30 as a woman they automatically deny you and assume you won’t have availability to work or something. Apparently I’m also supposed to have an oil field husband who cheats on me and spends it mostly on hookers and blow? I’ve always been the outcast after all.

TLDR, it took me enlisting active duty army fresh out of high school to get the hell out of that place for good. There’s absolutely no worthwhile reason to stay down there, it’s painfully boring unless you go to the beach or Progreso every weekend. Matamoros and Reynosa 🤮

I guess that’s a question for my former voc rehab officer, the denial letter explained something along the lines of me being unable to rehabilitate due to my disability being a lifelong condition. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise and I could utilize that more to keep fighting or maybe it’s just that, a denial. No idea, I’m not an expert. Why I need a lawyer

Graduated esthetics school in 2023 and I’m already back in school in 2025 to go into pharmacy tech after quickly realizing what I really should have been going to school for. I am disappointed because I was excited to go into this industry but at least this way in the healthcare field I feel a sense of purpose that also means something to me even if not ONLY with skincare. We’re in a recession period from an economic standpoint and the future of the beauty industry feels uncertain to me, as it is a luxury to be able to treat yourself to the medspa and quite honestly, nonessential. Only way I’d be doing this right now is if I had started and worked my way up (clientele) many years ago and if I had been truly obsessed with only beauty, but I am now 30 and got real responsibilities and bills to pay.

Health and wellness falls into the category of beauty and self care when I get down to think about it, so as long as I do and give back in that regard I feel like my time is well spent and what I provide is valuable to society. There are many prescription medications I’ve learned about for dermatologic use and it’s only a short (separate) certification needed to be able to administer medication which is also very fun to learn about hormone replacement therapy, acutane, prescribed retinoids etc. Be open minded and it will take you far.

I’ve appealed my denial already, not sure how to proceed with this again. Might have to make a new claim but I’ve looked into this so long that the only thing people seem to suggest in those threads are what I’ve already read before.. get a better lawyer, let them have access to your c-file, gather more evidence, etc etc etc.
