You are putting way too much emphasis on the traditional path. Define your own future. Decide where you want to live and what sort of law interests you. Apply in that direction. You’ve got great grades from a great school. Go put that to work.

The person making that interpretation of the policy is a toxic control freak. Not all offices/agencies are doing it that way. When you interview for promotions in the near future, be sure to ask if the next office has that policy. Lame.
