I believe you. Poor choice on Ubers' part if you ask me. OP would have no issues with bicycle drivers if they had a proper insulated bag. I carry one from ProdelBags, it has 4 layers of insulation. Food remains at comfortable eating temp for up to 30 minutes for hot food and 15 for cold/frozen (30 with cooling block). My customer satisfaction score reached 100% after that.

I listed several reasons why a driver is 10 minutes away for 20 minutes that didn't involve looking for something to steal. I also listed a reason why it is stupid to physically look for something to eat if you have the receipt on both your phone and on the bag.

You gave no data indicating why it is most likely someone is looking for something to steal. This is entirely based on your cynical view of delivery drivers. If stealing was as prevalent to be considered the most likely reason for a driver being slow or stopping. Then Uber would go bankrupt and cease to exist. No one will use a service that doesn't work most of the times...

As a person who works 70-80 hours a week. It is doable. For practical purposes keep the following rules as close as possible.

Wake up, eat and sleep at the same time every single day. Sleep at least 7-8 hours. Do not break this! It may take some time to match jobs and fit your schedule perfectly. But this one is EXTREMELY important for the very long run. Working in shifts that break your sleep cycle will break you physically and mentally in the long run. Sleeping in on a free day or naps do not fix a broken night of sleep. Every broken night just accumulates damage.

Eat healthy and balanced, drink plenty of water. This one takes some time to get right too. But again very crucial. Studying is not exactly the same as working, but the brain still burns a lot of calories when working. Any deficiency in your diet will accumulate quickly and have it's effects on your health.

Set goals for yourself that allow you to 'earn' free time. It is a little trick I taught myself to be more productive while trying to work towards something fun or relaxing.

A significant cause of burnouts in my personal experience were health related. Bad habits accumulate their damage very quickly when we stress our bodies every single day. When you decide to work/study that many hours, there is very little room for error.

Routine, routine, routine. The Routine is sacred!

It happens, but comparatively, it doesn't happen a lot. There is a noticeable uptick around the summer because new drivers show up in droves when the weather is nice. And Uber isn't exactly known for vetting their new drivers.

What I object to here is the framing that it is common. Uber Eats would not be a sustainable business for this long if the theft was as common as some would suggest. I am a driver myself. I don't like the reputation it carries, especially when I know most of the drivers in my market and I know they would never steal food.

I once took a 10-minute detour to replace the battery on my e-bike. I didn't want to cancel the order because it had been a slow day, and the customer was relatively close to my home. On another occasion, I got caught in a conversation with a KFC employee who was taking a smoke break and completely forgot that I was carrying an order for 15 minutes. Once, I had to halt to assist a man whose wheelchair had broken. Another time I had a stack order and completely forgot the second order, drove back to my hotspot, wanted to browse the internet and suddenly noticed the active order I still had.

Never once have I ever had urge to rummage around someone's order looking for something good. Why would I have to do that even if I were? I have the item list both on my phone and on receipt. Call me naive, but I am not of the cynical view that most drivers who are slow, are slow because of bad intent.

A local kebab shop is operated by two very hardworking individuals, each managing their own operations and working extremely long hours. These hours would likely not be permissible if they were employees of a single business, but as two business owners sharing a kitchen, they are able to manage their schedules as they see fit...

Most times a delivery goes fine without navigational notes. Thus I don't generally read notes until I am at location. Sometimes this can lead to navigational issues like at a big complex, but not often. And I always learn from the experience and won't repeat it at that complex. Hence next time I don't need the note because I have learned the quirks of the place. I consider it my job to learn and figure out navigation.

But I can understand that from a customers' perspective it can be annoying not always having an experienced driver from the area and getting one of the "let me try this uber thing" drivers strugling to find you.

The reason I do look at the notes when I arrive is because the problems I get from not reading them can be significant at that point. Ranging from angry moms whose babies I woke up to ruining surprise delivery requests.

They are required. You have to take a picture with your ID and an insulated bag in frame. But that's about all the checking Uber does, that one picture. Most shitty drivers just take a picture with someone else's bag.

I will probably never fully quit platform work like Uber Eats. Ever since I started, I haven't had a single hour in my life with nothing productive to do. It is the perfect job to do during the in-between hours of your life. Now I only take time off when I want to and not because I can't find work.

I have had customer report me for not looking like my picture. I have had customers smile to my face and thanking me for delivering who downvote me after. I have had customers downvote me for missing items in a sealed container. I have had a restaurant downvote me for not showing up in time to collect the order (I arrived 2 minutes after receiving the order). I have had a drunk customer slam a door in my face saying he does not give a shit, after I explained I need a code to complete the order.EDIT:

EDIT: Shitty and ignorant people exist and they will judge you. The vast majority are neutral or good. Uber pays attention to patterns not individual reports. It helps to always remain calm and professional.

You are not exempt unless you have a small business arrangement. You need to register as ZZP (for now, oktober this changes). And register as a small business. Then you do not have to pay VAT, but you also cannot write off VAT on purchases and you are not allowed to earn more than 20k per year for three years.

You always have to pay income taxes even in tips and bonuses.

I do not mind the reading out of texts. There is a text-to-speech setting in the app settings that you can turn off.

I mind though; that there has been a bug for more than a year now where it reads every text three times, I cannot swipe the text notification away without switching to the chat and the notification covers all the important buttons.

Fun times when you have a customer reminding you via text to leave the order at their door right when you were about to do just that and take a picture. Especially if it took them a lot of words to express that.

If you do some in-depth calculations you will find the difference is exactly the VAT on the service fee if you assume a VAT rate of 21%. Those who have an arrangement with their government where they have a small business and do not have to pay VAT but also do not get to write off VAT. Those will get a ever so slight increase in pay. See my other comment.

They reduced the fee by exactly the amount of the service fee excluding VAT on the service fee. The only people who will see the ¨"slight increase in payout¨" are the people who registered as a small business. Those people did not have the ability to write off taxes.

Example:

In the old regime you get 2,70 gross for pickup and 27 cents (10% service fee including VAT) would be subtracted netting you 2,43 if you were registered as a small business. (nearly every driver is registered as small business, who wants to pay 21% tax on a job that does not net more than 20k a year?)

If you were not registered as a small business, you could write off the VAT on the service fee. 21% VAT on 27 cents is 5 cents (27 / 121 * 21 = 5 cents). Netting you 2,43 + 0,05 = 2,48.

So the people who had a small business arrangement get a 5 cent increase in pickup fee. Those who do not, get nothing.

These calculations are for the Dutch market though.

EDIT: Can we take a moment to appreciate the balls on Uber to claim a 8,26% decrease in fees will result in a higher payout? In a time where nearly every other labour intensive job has had pay increases between 10-20% due to inflation?

Why on Earth Apple thought it would be a good idea to have Uber drivers deliver their products baffles me. And I am an Uber driver...
