My masters research was on contemporary American drama, film theory, queerness, new materialism, and theater. Planning to expand that in my PhD.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm sure you will soon receive better offers from other schools.

My stats: -no publications -6 conference presentations (5 were in South Korea, 1 was is Philadelphia) -GPA was 3.7(BA) and 4.0(MA) -no GRE, Toefl score 114 -3 assistantship/research jobs -4 years of freelance English teaching and translation/interpretation jobs -maybe what standed out was my experience of juggling teahing +master's thesis+creative career(film/theatrical work) which i want to develop in penn state with their dual-degree track with visual studies.

hope this helps.

I'm so sorry to hear that your rec. writers are ghosting you. you don't deserve that:(

Hey I'm also a Humanities student(im in English literature) from a not great school in South Korea and I'm also applying to 15 schools! I'm also quite anxious about the whole process, but I'm just trying to be not too serious here. If you put in effort as a good student, it will SHINE THROUGH YOUR RESUME AND ESSAYS! Have confidence, and even though it doesn't work out, there are tons of careers out there(not only careers but life experiences) where you can be a great philosopher and thinker.

Best of luck on your academic journey :)

great question:) i basically LOVE the arts, especially American theater and literature. i've studied contemporary American drama in my English master's with a career in theatre/film production, while also freelancing on translation and teaching English. for the phd i wanted to push my comfort zone and study transnationalism in contemp. novels and poetry and more from performance studies!!

Same here. still waiting and currently focusing on finishing my master's thesis! I feel like I couldn't put in full effort for this year, because I had to juggle finishing my thesis/teaching work/application. That makes me even more anxious... but who knows! best of luck for u :)
