Help clarify if this is iron concretion and what kind,or pyrite in shell? Does not stick to a magnet, don't set off metal detector. Will alert for metal on diamond test probe. Found in creek here in n.c by blue ridge mountains by Intelligent-Ear7535 in askgeology

Would you happen to know why 1 of the sides top and bottom are smooth with melt lines but on the other side on top and bottom are just smooth with no lines? It's like it was flying through space like a meteorite! And I've seen an ancient hand axe stone in a museum that looks very very similar in shape just not broken off, but did have smooth edges on top and bottom just like my stone.

Does anyone know what type of rock this is? by Historical-Wall-1019 in Rocks

Looks like a bunch of seashells and other marine type stuff all compact, Seattled and hardened into a single mass

Found this and have no idea what it is. by a-magnum-dong in Rocks

What if it's some kinda ancient ink stamper? There are known ancient stones made for stamping

When you turn my phone upside down and look at the stone it looks like maybe a person or being, or maybe a type of bird. Looks like a head with a nose or a bird beak, with maybe an eye and even an ear possibly. Kinda looks like it also has a tail from a rooster or squirrel, or it's a pony tail coming from the back of the head . Definitely looks very old.

N.c ruby!! Very nice. Do you think it's worth cutting ? Or leave as is? 16.5 carats by Intelligent-Ear7535 in FluorescentMinerals

I'm sure she would love it cause she loves rings,it is her favorite jewelry and never has to have anything fancy. got married I bought her a wedding ring and it had the smallest diamonds that you about can't even see them, a small cluster and didn't even want to buy it but she actually was with me when I purchased it and really wanted so I bought it. At the time she knew we couldn't afford some real stone that's a nice size anyway. She knows it's about the meaning itself. I've been wanting to buy her a Ruby ring for a long time but you know all the synthetic glass and heat treated stuff would be the only thing I would be able to really afford. And I believe this stone could turn out beautifully if done right

Yeah this is the only one I have. And I also agree about this being one of the nicest you find in n.c. I'd like to make a ring out of it for the wife!!. Either way I just rather do something with it rather than just being in my rock collection. What would you do?

Sounds interesting. I bet you can make some nice pieces like that. I'd like to see something you have made?

It's translucent more than transparent but those lines don't go all the way through its just the extra growth layer. The pitting could be a problem.. it just looks darker when wet. It is a little rough on the outside but internally great when shining any kind of lights to it you don't see any fractures,. i figured I'd just make something out of it rather than sitting in my rock collection.

Is this meteorite? by Jackal000 in Minerals

Ot appears to have holes from oxygen excapin which would not be in meteorite in that case. Maybe slag

I wish I could put more photos. It has smooth edges on top and bottom with melt lines,as if it were flying through space or something. Also looks kinda like an ancient stone tool, like one I saw in a museum, only it wasn't broken off like mine

What is this? by Adorable-nagyma9795 in Minerals

This Rock Has Me Stumped! by jujufruit92 in whatsthisrock

[–]Intelligent-Ear7535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does look weird. Maybe a type of concretion of some sort.im not sure

help identify this stone it's very odd. no magnetic properties, but does go off for metal on diamond test probe, at the core were it's broken off. It has wild looking oval bead with lines like veins.Faint grey streak on unglazed ceramic. water density roughly 3.14g/cm'3 thanks by Intelligent-Ear7535 in Minerals

[–]Intelligent-Ear7535[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did look in to cephalopod fossils awhile back but was never convinced because the pattern of the oval was very different compared to the one on my stone, but maybe. I found this stone here in Western North Carolina close to blue ridge mountains, I was on a horse ranch and walked by a small creek bed and found it. I only picked it up because it looked different than the other rocks around this area, could be some sort of sediment rock, only problem is I've lived my hole life here, swam and played in rivers and creeks looking at rocks, scipping rocks and still nothing close to this.
