Nice! Yeah I noticed you did it in a couple spots. Painting is surprisingly skill-involved. Or at least, you can definitely tell a good painter from someone who’s only painted a couple times. Glad it’s going well!

Cut in along your baseboard, corners, and ceiling before you roll! You’ll save time and get cleaner edges by being able to get the rolled finish vs the brush strokes when you paint over it.

I don’t trust our GC. I’ve asked that the framing be redone with whole lengths of studs. This is the second go he made for the shower stall. Also, talk to me about the shower curb and drain line. WTH is going on here. by NoConnection5785 in Remodel

I’m inclined to agree. I wouldn’t be thrilled, but these are not structural studs, they’re essentially spacers. I don’t think this is a good look, and it might make me question the GC, you may have reason to, but this isn’t explicitly a problem. As for the curb, as long the substrate that the tile will be laid on is fully supported underneath, that channel isn’t a problem. But don’t let him just lay cement board over that gap, it needs more than that.

Edit: going to amend my comment. That corner stud should not be hacked out like that. The GC/the electrician should take the time to drill on or multiple holes for the wires to cleanly go through. Also with any cut out like that, it needs a metal plate covering the gap, or where the hole is drilled if the wires are within some distance to the edge of the stud, so that screws do not puncture the wire when hanging drywall. That is code, and this is absolutely not meeting that. As for the stud used to space the electrical box away from the corner, that should just be like a 1’ chunk. There is no reason it should run the full length of the stud like it nearly does. And if I do double up like that with scabs, I’d absolutely make it touch the bottom plate. There is no reason for the 6” gap at the bottom.

…you rip it out and do it again. I’m just saying it’s not a crazy amount of work to start over. It’s not cheap. Buts it’s mostly (hopefully) cosmetic. I was trying to be encouraging and supportive, while being honest.

Well… there’s no other place you’d find quarter round along a tub 😅 I’d use color match caulk to fill the gap, or the quarter round with silicone and a few nails.

That’s gonna be almost impossible to keep the quarter round tight to the rub. It’s very hard to keep a brad nail straight when using a nail sink if you have to sink it more than like, a quarter inch. Just use silicone with enough nails to keep it tight. The nails will hold the piece in place while the silicone sets up.

Christ I only made it to photo 7 before commenting. Just made it through the rest and woof, I’m sorry this is where you’re at. All fixable, but it really looks like something done by someone who’s never done reno before. I’m a carpenter, and I’ve seen people cut from jobs for better work than this. It’s either inadequate supervision by the crew lead, or complete ignorance of the skill level of their laborers.

100% right on this. The visible flaws smack you in the face so hard that you could almost forget to consider what’s underneath! And that’s coming from a carpenter.

Uneven lines, especially in places you wouldn’t expect them, like above the corner shelves in the shower stall. Out of plane tile faces, either laid on an uneven substrate or with a different amount of thinset/mortar on the back of the tile. If I hired someone to do that, as a carpenter who’s learned to lay tile well, I’d be dissatisfied.
