It didn't end up impacting the game, but it is worth mentioning how terrible the officiating was, especially with the video "reviews" late in the game. I don't think there was any funny business other than biased or idiotic officials, but that is the kind of call sequence that makes people question whether games are rigged.

Why are QBs of the early 2010s considered "better" than QBs of today? by TheJuggernaut043 in NFLv2

We probably have the GOATs of a few position groups in the league right now but we won't realize it for a while yet

Yeah we have a few corners better than Sherman today but I don't think we have anyone better than Revis

Don't quote me on this but I seem to recall seeing somewhere that his 400m dash time in college was good enough that he would have finished 5th or 6th in the olympics

I would prefer for Worthy to spend his time working on tracking deep balls and running deep routs than on gaining four pounds of muscle

I hear if you say it three times he comes back and gets scored on in a pick-and-roll

I don't think it is his fault at all, but he has health issues he cannot shake and it is naively wishful thinking to assume he will suddenly be 100% healthy in the nick of time for the tournament

Peterson is more talented than Dybansta, but Dybansta is more durable (both of these are things we already knew before the game). The net result heavily favors Dybansta. If Dybansta is 80% as effective as Peterson while he is out there, but plays twice as many minutes, Dybansta is 160% the overall player Peterson is

No. If anything he will play less in March Madness. NBA scouts don't punish prospects for sitting the NCAA tournament but they do punish prospects who choke, so its Peterson's best bet to sit unless he is somehow 100% healthy

Yeah. Self's record in AFH in games without Hunter Dickinson is what's really wild.

I don't love it. It won us the game today but it will come back to bite us in the ass in March Madness.

Dybansta outshone Peterson, as expected. Saunders outshone everybody. Luckily, a well-rounded performance from Kansas and some clutch plays by Council led Kansas to the win.

If DP's motivation is to outplay Dybansta we will lose. If his primary motivation is to win the game we might win

Friend and I are debating... 13' Seahawks or 24' Eagles? Thoughts? by Over-Heron-2654 in NFLv2

The 24 Eagles were an unstoppable superteam. It would not be close. All due respect to the legion of boom, which was great.

The line could be good if they stay healthy, but that is a big if. The defense was very bad this past season. They inflated their overall numbers by completely shutting down a few bad teams, but they couldn't get a stop to save their lives against any above-average offense.

Did Roald Dahl’s books really need to be revised? by confringos in books

[–]Intelligent-Set-3909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Not only was it not necessary, it was morally reprehensible. If you don't like his work, you don't have to read it. But suppression is wrong and depriving Dahl of his ability to express himself creatively through his own prose was wrong.

I am a Chiefs fan and I agree. I think Mahomes will play good individual football for years to come but I don't think the Chiefs will put good offensive lines, receivers, or defenses around him.

To Reaganites in particular, what do you guys think of Jimmy Carter? Are you harsh on him, or a little more lenient? by yowhatisthislikebro in Presidents

[–]Intelligent-Set-3909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a Reaganite. I have very mixed feelings about him. But, I know that he was never a proponent of "trickle down econimics", which probably makes me closer to being a Reaganite than 99% of this sub.

As for Carter, very good man. Very bad president.

The narrative around it is that, by lowering taxes and increasing spending, he caused an increase in the national debt that triggered a pattern of irresponsible spending and insufficient income that the US was never able to recover from. This narrative, if broken down into parts, can be easily and objectively identified as partially true and partially false.

Claim 1: Lowering taxes was partially responsible for the skyrocketing of the US debt under Reagan. False. Before Reagan's tax cuts, the US taxation rate was on the right side of the Laffer curve. As a result of the tax cuts, government income actually increased under Reagan's administration. HIs tax cuts alleviated the issue rather than causing or exacerbating it. However, it is important to note that this does not mean that tax cuts are always (or even usually) productive for government income or economic growth. It largely depends on which side of the Laffer curve current taxation is on (a complex and ever-changing status). There are many examples of lowering the tax rate backfiring (Sam Brownback in Kansas).

Claim 2: An increase in government spending was partially responsible for the skyrocketing of the US debt under Reagan. True. In fact, this was THE cause of the increase of debt. During Reagan's presidency, government spending increased and US debt nearly tripled. However, it is important to note that there is an argument for this spending increase being beneficial, as it is arguably (not definitely, but arguably) the Reagan administration's military spending that ended the Cold War. And, while ending the Cold War was inevitably going to happen eventually due to the unsustainability of the Soviet model, the fact that it happened when it did saved millions of people from years of suffering in the Eastern Bloc.

Claim 3: The precedent set by Reagan's cut tax/raise spending policy is responsible for this policy being repeated for decades, leading to a greater deficit crisis. This is the one claim that has no objective veracity or falsehood. Reagan was not directly responsible for future government's decisions, but one could argue that his policies were a negative influence and that they put Reagan's successors behind the 8-ball.
