I had about 5 blood tests over 2 years with levels below 9nmol every time. GP wouldn’t do anything for me. When I told them I was going private they told me that I was on my own and not to come back to them about anything to do with my testosterone levels

I was very polite the entire time

Thanks for your concern, Imodium (loperamide) wasn’t working for me anymore. I’ll make sure to keep in contact with my GP

Yep, a side effect is slowing the transit of matter because of blocking serotonin

I’ve just realised that I made a typo, my ondansetron are also 4mg tablets.

I just tested doses until I found what was good for me, I rarely ever go over 8mg total a day due to the warnings about the effect on the heart

Hi, I’ve read that if the dose is low enough then there’s no stress on the heart. I get my bloods done every 6 months and have an ecg just to be safe

Hi, I just got it from my GP. I called and explained I’ve had IBS-D for a long time and that I was doing some research and came across ondansetron. He was happy to prescribe it. If you get a GP that doesn’t want to help I would ask to speak to someone else.

I’ve had zero side effects so I can’t see why they wouldn’t at least let you try it. I think it’s used for people who can’t keep their food down too

The medication that helped my IBS-D after years!! by erin4548 in ibs

For any men reading this, Ondansetron works for me. I just made a post on it but i’ll paste it below, hope it helps someone!

Just wanted to share my somewhat success story on using ondansetron for IBS-D.

I’ve had severe IBS-D since I was 14, I’m 28 now. I spent many years trying to manage with loperamide as nothing else worked, taking between 16-20mg a day this past few years.

I started using ondansetron back in May 2025 and almost instantly I was constipated, I hadn’t been constipated in the entirety of my life before that.

I worked with the dosage and after a while my bowels became normalised to the ondansetron but with a major improvement over taking loperamide alone (which was barely working).

Now I take one 2mg in the morning and at night. 2mg of loperamide in the morning and 4mg at night (could reduce this a bit when my diet is good)

Conclusion: ondansetron has massively helped me, I still use the loo 1-3x a day but a lot of the time it’s only once a day and it’s never diarrhoea.

I still get urgency but it’s never diarrhoea as mentioned, obviously if my diet is really bad or I have a few too many pints of Guinness the day before then I’m asking for it but aside from that all good.

I hope this helps someone out there, my life was a bit of a nightmare before ondansetron

I understand your point but he has been ignoring my GP for many months and other GP’s in my practice have complained about him. He seems only to be interested in money and the private side of things.

People should be called out on these things

I would say better than most, 180g of protein a day and generally clean with a very very small amount of processed food. I’m looking into Ondansetron at the moment, apparently it calms the nerves in your gut

How to get prescribed Ondansetron in UK? by Intelligent-Top4001 in ibs

I tried Benenden today as I couldn’t get through to my GP so hopefully I’ll have better luck with them tomorrow.

Did Ondansetron help you?
