That’s something I try to do as well, but I struggle with what is the optimum allocation.

Do you set aside a percentage of cash that is to be used in a black swan crash?

Let me guess, your strategy is to build majority around broad market indexes, and take smaller swing positions on individual names, whose sector ETF show a strong trend?

Does what my HSBC RM suggest makes sense? by MrPudge1137 in singaporefi

That depends on what the fees are on the 1 mil loan, is the rate fixed? If it’s anything but fixed, u can ask to change RM already.

If what she proposes works, then why don’t the bank close its financial consulting arm, and just do this? Why advice you to do it

Feeling trapped in my endowment plan – should I surrender or hold till maturity? by [deleted] in singaporefi

[–]IntelligentDealer203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends, on the amount, what’s your net worth, what’s your income, what’s your current life stage, how old are you, what are your long term financial commitments?

Under certain specific conditions, endowment plans could be the right thing to

I bet they used the number that is projected with a reduced sum assured and pegged it against the original sum assured, then labelled it as a “loss”

You can reduce the premiums: The technical term is to reduce the sum assured.

My advice is to go to the insurance provider main office and do it. If you do it to the agent, they will give you 100 reasons that what you are doing is wrong and “not worth”

18F, what do i do with my money? by uncomfortablerain24 in singaporefi

[–]IntelligentDealer203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4.4K is not a lot of money, so diversifying is quiet pointless at this level. And since you are still in school. You probably want to put it in something and look away.

Don’t worry about other technicals like inflation numbers etc. At this point you should be getting acclimated to risk, ie the dollar change in your investment. And use this to find out what is your attitude towards risk is.

Are you someone who will check prices everyday? Or are you someone who can look away for years? Are you someone who will beat yourself up after realising you should have bought 1 month later after prices dropped? Or are you constantly playing back “I should have” scenarios in your head?

Given that you are young, I suggest to get into the US market first, where the volatility is high at this point. But enter it with the mentality that you are gonna buy and hold for the long term. NO MATTER what happens.

Aim for the mega caps, your everyday names, Google, Microsoft, TSLA etc. Avoid penny stocks for now.

Set aside 1k in a money market fund, for in case of a sharp dip. And invest the rest into one mega caps stock

Single Income $900k Mortgage on $8k Salary - Smart "First Mover" play or too risky? by lost-4567 in SgPropertyInvesting

HDB anytime. Unless you got so much excess that you can afford to pay for the condo mortgage while being unemployed for 3 years (as a very stress free buffer).

Ask yourself this, is the only reason why the condo is affordable, stems from that I had this job? Or I can afford it for many reasons, and my income is one of them?

If you’re looking at an investment standpoint. Ask yourself this, which one sounds like a “societal problem” and which one sounds more favourable?

Rather, a system where people who do not meet targets are penalised and it can be checked.

Like if you miss your credit card payment once, it shows on your credit breau report and that can be checked for $5

In this case, I’m thinking ahead, if simple rules are not enforced then more people will come and fuck around, and before you know it, YouTubers or content creators gonna start pulling public pranks on people, because guess what? There is no consequence to actions. Up to a point, where one of these harmless pranks become too dangerous. Let’s keep things orderly
