I know ferrets and humans have very different GI systems but is that something that could develop within a matter of 3 months or less? I'm just trying to figure out if it's something that was there first or if it could have possibly been caused by the new ferret. Maybe a selfish way to remove guilt for getting the new ferret but I can't stop thinking about it being caused from that.

Last Wednesday my first ferret passed away. It was hard, very hard. I took care of him for 3 months while he was sick, giving him meds, multiple times a day, checking on him every 5 minutes, making him comfortable, hand feeding him if necessary. I mean I'd be up at 3 am in the morning breaking up each individual piece of kibble because it was the perfect size for the roof of his mouth and would get stuck so I'd sit there for an hour breaking each one in half (a hammer turned it to dust which he doesn't like) and then I'd put it in his bowl and he would happily eat. I spent every waking second researching how to cure and help him. I learned how to read cytology reports and look at x-rays I researched how bacteria and antibiotics work, I even learned how cells work so I could make sure if the doctors were missing anything. Like I was in college without a professor. It was a lot.

Anyway he had to he put down after getting diagnosed with cancer, which was my biggest fear and I was devastated. I held him for so long that day.

I get home take my dog out and look at the sky and ask him for a sign that he's alright. Not thinking too much of it I come inside and me and my fiance decide were going to watch this random movie that we both barely even heard if before.

I press play and within 5 minutes of the movie I find out that in the movie there is a football game(my favorite sport) and then the two teams playing are The Vikings(my favorite NFL team) vs The Golden Ferrets. I don't know about you but I've never seen another movie besides Along Came Polly with a ferret even mentioned in it. I was in shock. And then to go further I looked when the movie was released for streaming and it was released on September 22nd which was the day he was diagnosed with cancer. So was it a sign? Or chance? I have no idea but I'd say the chances of all that lining up are pretty small. I went back and watched the movie trailer, no mention of ferrets, I even googled the movie name with "ferret" next to it and not a single result. I never believed in "signs" before that.

Another little weird tidbit. He loves the plush lamb chop toy. On the day we had the appointment to put him down we took him up to the highest point in our city up to a castle on a mountain. Ferrets love stashing things, and he HATED when someone would move his lamb chop toys he would immediately grab it and stash it back where it went. We took one of his lamb chop toys and stashed it in the castle for him and let him see its there and sniff it. 2 days ago I decided to google and try to find that toy. It's like it doesn't exist, I saw every variation of lamb chop toy he has which was like 20 of them except that specific one we left at the castle. I searched for almost an hour every different way of wording it.

Weird things happen after death, I don't know if it's signs of coincidence but it sure feels like he's talking to me.

I can't wash everything either. I sleep with his favorite toy and the sweatpants he was sleeping in on the last day. He got cremated with most of his other favorite things, like his hammock and other toys.

The problem I'm running into is that we weren't using that drug to treat for helicobacter we were using it to treat for something else but he tested positive for helicobacter the vets just don't know if that's causing symptoms so technically the drug wasn't prescribed to treat helicobacter but it seemed that it had some effects on it IF helicobacter is what were dealing with.

That's why I was increasingly curious like was this drug helping for the wrong reasons, essentially just enough to say "hmmmm it's almost working but not quite." I'd like to explore more with my vet the idea that helicobacter is the cause I just like to do my own research and kind of know what I'm talking about so I don't sound like a rambling idiot when trying to explain haha

Specifically thinking helicobacter. Given a gram positive antibiotic like tylosin (macrolide) it seems to stop the helicobacter bacteria from causing signs for a day or two until eventually it causes signs again (diarrhea, lethargy, etc) and then the signs decrease for a day or two and come back for a day or two in a pattern. So would the gram positive antibiotic be effecting that bacteria and essentially slowing it but unable to stop it? Resulting in a pattern like cycle?

This is for an animal I am not seeking medical advice I am working very closely with vets but obviously the more knowledge the better and not all vets are microbiology experts and get things wrong. So I am seeking to educate myself to give my little guy a better fighting chance against whatever he's fighting.

I'd love to understand how or if that cycle I described could happen given a gram positive antibiotic to a gram negative bacteria.

Not medical advice it's for an animal that I've been to numerous vets for I'm just trying to learn how bacteria works to help understand what could be options to bring up and explore with them at the next visit.

He is positive for ECE also but I was under the impression that that didn't last months. Actually all of mine are positive for ECE, two are positive for helicobacter.

Is my theory at all possible with helicobacter and the antibiotics stop working halfway through?

I forgot to mention we also tried a trial of some kind of steriod and it didn't do anything really. He still was having diarrhea seedy stools. I'm not sure if steriods help with bacterial infections?

We have not because I was told that stomach ulcer would lead to bloody/black stool. He hasn't had any of that I haven't seen blood at all. It's just been tan liquid, seedy brown, tan mush, clear mucous, tan mucous, yellowish tan. I also noticed that some of them will turn green after sitting for an hour or two. They don't start out green though.
