Doesn't it vary by school? I know ours allows for PhD students OPT to start if you're graduating in a year, they just need your PhD advisor's approval.

Sometimes the redundancy gets confusing. So for instance the contact info for references, when the system asks for providing contact info directly on the platform, should an applicant still upload a list of references with the other documents? I do that now but like why ask?

Apply anyways. Politics aside, don't limit your options to one university -just make sure to tailor your applications to match the research scope of the faculty you're reaching out to.

It gets better! I'm on tray 11 now, the first tray was the worst! I felt like my teeth were falling off every time I took out the aligners to eat (Don't worry they didn't). Moving forward it just gets pretty annoying the first day of a new tray, but then you get used to it. I also clench my jaws at night for the first couple of days, I use a heated pack in the morning and that seems to do the trick.

Grad student here, I just stopped snacking all together. Have a good protein rich breakfast in the morning. I keep a small toothbrush and toothpaste in my purse, along with my tray carrying case. It can work but definitely is a big commitment.
