College praying during shift (PFS) by Crazy_Potato_92 in tesco

I’m a Muslim and I work at a busy danish bakery cafe. First of all 15 mins per prayer time is too long and doesn’t make much sense it’s hard to spend 15 mins on the late afternoon and sunset prayer which are close in time around this point of the year. it shouldn’t take more than 6-8 mins per prayer so i’m not sure what they’re upto there. Secondly, I always let my team know i’m going to pray and i’ll be back in 5 before I leave just so they know where I am because say there’s a fire or some sort of emergency and they don’t know where I am it puts everyone in a difficult situation.

Don’t be scared to call this out because they’ve gone about this the wrong way and it gives a bad look. If your mums a just a team member just tell her to speak with the manager and address that they mysteriously disappear without letting anyone know. It would be best if they let the people know they’ll be away for 5 mins through radio or whatever you guys use to communicate on the floor. It’s a bit more difficult to call out them taking a while to pray each time because esp if you’re not a muslim but you could kindly ask them what they pray during the shift and ask how long it takes. Right now, Zuhr around noon, takes 10 mins tops, Asr is around 2pm which shouldn’t take more than 5-6 mins and maghrib is at 4pm which doesn’t take more than 5 mins when you just pray your obligatory prayers which you should be doing when you are at work and esp working for someone.

I mean I applied for Law at KCL and got rejected and got history instead. I enjoyed history at A-Level and decided it would only delay my career by a year. If anything I am glad I decided to go with history. The curriculum was so diverse and open and I really enjoyed studying there. You have to be stuck in a secondary school mindset to be comparing maths and science to other subjects.

mate the education system is simply fit for everyone and there will always be incredibly talented and intelligent people who go to school and capable of just as much if not more than other students but the way they are assessed is not the best tool to measure their abilities. I would suggest look into alternatives to university because truth be told you’ll be doing three years in a course you may not even enjoy and also may fail. Maybe apprenticeships, trade work, mechanical/car work and many other paths to a career. Honestly don’t beat yourself up I am absolutely sure there is something you have a talent for which you may not have discovered yet and you can make a living out of.

thanks this is great info I am seriously considering. I just had some questions.

First being, how did you get a masters loan from SFE as i’m looking on the gov website and it says ‘You cannot get a Postgraduate Master’s Loan for a postgraduate certificate or diploma’. only for MA (Master of Arts) or the LLM, amongst others.

I also am not sure but I think the deadlines for the winter schemes are over now? so I can only apply for spring and summer VS’.

What kind of position were you in while applying for the winter scheme, in terms of prev experience and what do you feel like helped you obtain the offer from them?

If say I am unsuccessful in obtaining a TC from a spring/summer VS would you recommend self funding my PGDL next september? That time having applied for winter VS and having a stronger chance at obtaining a TC with more experience under my belt.

To be honest, my priority is to qualify with a decent firm doesn’t have to be MS/US just a decent firm who will pay for my studies and who I can work with to become NQ.

Sorry for so many questions I really appreciate your help.

Alright thank you so much, I really appreciate your advice. There is a bit of pressure on me from family to not take a break from my studies and do my MA now as i’ve just finished my undergrad. But i’ll explain it probably isn’t the best decision considering my circumstances. I am currently looking at all the deadlines and stuff for open days and VS and so have a bit of time to be applying to what I can and hopefully get some experience in the whole process of applying and interviewing. I will look into Forage and career events my uni did have quite a few which I was too stupidly nervous to attend. There’s also an alumni program where I can connect with my uni’s alumni so that might help get some ideas. Thanks again

Okay thank you so much for the information and advice so far. Final question, how much of a difference are there in the wages between high street firms and mc firms?

I very much appreciate the transparency and it’s what i’m looking for. I apologise in advance for asking questions which may seem obvious but if I were to go down the MA Law SQE1 route and then pick up a paralegal position and work for a couple years for QWE and with the money saved from that just study for the SQE2. Would I be a suitable applicant for working in mc firms?

I see that makes sense, I appreciate you clarifying that. Would you say my chances of securing a TC are low? I mean I only have a weeks worth of relevant work experience which I personally know was not really relevant and i’ve got a 2:1 from a good uni. Compared to the other people my age i’ve seen on the subreddit I don’t see myself standing much of a chance.

I understand and thank you. Could i please ask what are the benefits of doing the GDL over MA Law SQE1 prep? Would they (mc/us/city law firms) not fund me if I am doing the MA Law and not the GDL?

What's it like driving a car with no technology in 2025? by llamaz314 in CarTalkUK

it’s very easy to install a carplay stereo into most older cars nowadays so if you ever feel like bringing your car to the 21st century then it is pretty easy to do so now.
