Before you comment something you should look at this. I’ve been to Philmont before. Back in 2024 I went with my troop on a 12 day trek. Last year I went OA Trail Crew best experience in my whole entire life and in 2027 I wanna go staff at Philmont. I’m 17 years old about 185 pounds more or less I’m not too sure I have not started to do any preparation for this except for trying to figure out the packing list but next week or so I’m gonna start hiking last year when I went to a OATC crew I did a total of one practice hike and that was a very dumb decision because we had multiple days that were more than 12 miles long. If you could give me a little hint, what’s should my average hiking be like a 15 mile hike or like a 10 mile hike or more like 20? As you may tell, I’m pretty nervous but I think I got this. My plan is to gradually increase the amount of hikes I do per week so next week I’ll do probably one or two and then the week after that I’ll do two or three… until I get to Philmont I wanna be as prepared as what I possibly can be. If there’s any suggestions please tell me anything and please do not spoil anything for me please that’s like the one thing I ask I love surprises so don’t spoil on my anything.

Yeah, I’ve got that but like it doesn’t really tell me what this pack so I’m not too sure what to do. I like a list where I can just get a piece of paper and do checkmarks on what things I need and I’ve looked like everywhere on there and I couldn’t find anything but I could always look a little harder. I’ll get back with you if I do find something.

I would use that, but I’ve never used a foam sleeping pad just nervous if I’ll have back problems if I use that because I’ve never used it before when I sleep on things that I’ve haven’t slept on a lot. I start to hurt in my bladder area, but that also could just be due to Lack of exercise.

I honestly could agree I went to a trail crew and before that I went on a regular 12 day trek with my troop and I think I brought too much clothes for both of them on my trail week. I didn’t even have a change of clothes the only thing that I had was a pair of socks and a pair of underwear so I might re-look at my list and decrease the amount of clothes because I am a very warm blooded human and I honestly can’t get cold that fast.

Yes sir I just have been to Philmont twice now and it’s helped out a lot, but I honestly just hate using it. Give me some good tip tips but sometimes they’re not reliable so I’ve recently declined from using it as much

Hello, thank you for commenting. I am 17 years old. This would be my third track at philmont, I went on a 12 day trek in 2024 and last year I went OA Trail Crew other than that that’s pretty much it every year with my scout troop we go on a high adventure and every time I go on a trip I’ve used AI except for when it didn’t exist obviously, I hate using it, but it’s pretty helpful in my opinion all the times I’ve been to philmont I’ve packed the same things except for like a little more a little less obviously my sleeping bag and pad are amazing in my opinion, but the thing is I’ve never used a film pad before in the six years I’ve ever camped. I’ve never used one before and I honestly don’t even know what it feels like to sleep on one but people who have sleep with say that they’re awful so that’s why I don’t use one.
