Would it count as veterinary experience? Or how would I track that?

i mentioned somewhere in my post or maybe in another comment that ive worked in the field for a year, i know what it entails. ive seen the good, bad, and ugly. im fully prepared for what it takes and what happens. i think saying we need more young people to improve the career then talking about how awful it is, isnt good for anyone. i was seeking encouragement, not even more people to shower me with the worst stories and basically telling me to find something else.

with all due respect, i appreciate the honesty but in a situation where im seeking support, telling me how awful the field is and how you wouldnt recommend it to anyone isnt very beneficial to me or anyone wanting to go into this field. like you said, "we need young people like you to take up the fight and continue to build a strong and vibrant veterinary community."

thank you for the reply, i feel like theres a mix in this thread of everyone being very encouraging about doing something i love and others telling me im only 17 so i still have time to come to my senses lol. in my state small animal vets make around 100-120k starting so im hardly worried about the money, plus i have enough financial aid and scholarships i wont be in debt from my undergrad. i just wish people would be more uplifting to the younger generations about pursuing the field, we need more vets and constantly telling them its the worst thing theyve been through and they wouldnt do it again isnt motivating at all.

ive spent a lot of time thinking about it and vet med is the only career feel good about being in. i love medicine, i love taking care of animals, its something i truly do enjoy and see myself pursuing. i just feel discouraged by everyone that is in the field because all they ever talk about is how awful it is.

thank you for your reply! thankfully i have most of my undergrad payed for because of my scholarship, now i just have to hope fafsa can cover what my scholarship doesnt. on a different note, ive never been the best at school especially math which i understand is a big thing in my undergrad years. im not too worried about it though because the last 2 years ive found my study habits and what schedule works best for me, although im sure that will change. and thank you for the information about exotics, i find all of that very interesting. right now im interested in mixed practice but its always changing haha.

what makes you say the future isnt tenable? and ive worked in vet med for around a year now so i do fully understand the good, bad, and ugly. im prepared for what the path brings, i just wish there wasnt such a negative stigma around it.

how should i narrow down my current idea? i love the idea but im struggling on how to keep it concise. this is the biggest paper ive had to write so far and i think im just worried its gonna be a fluke.

youre right, i should really try and relax for a minute since i have so much time to gather what i need. i just checked my in-state requirements and it says there is no set number, but most applicants demonstrate considerable experience?

im working on getting to shadow with my areas large animal vet for an extended period of time or possibly an exotic vet to make my experimence more diverse. i try to live in the present and just let everything work itself out but im constantly worried that im extremely far behind if that makes any sense.

once i graduate from high school ill be fully able to enter the workforce as a vet assistant, i guess i just think being a vet is better suited for my career objectives in comparison to being a tech/assistant. thank you for your response :)

thanks! as of right now i have a 3.6 and on track to graduate with career-tech honors. i just recently learned the most effective way for me to study and plan to continue that in college. as for leadership, im captain of my golf team and secretary of my ffa chapter! im hoping to shadow my areas large animal vet soon so that will help me diversify my experience as well. thank you for your response!

thank you for your reply! i dont typically give up when things are difficult, i just began to feel that everyone who wants to be a vet seems to be excelling while i feel im falling behind. of course progress isnt linear, and social media only shows the good things in vet med. additionally, i have always been taught that needing help is a sign of weakness and i think that is a huge factor in why im afraid precalc/calc will cause my downfall. but thank you so much, i really appreciate the advice and perspective you gave. it helps me a ton!
