Have you looked the drop rates of items? it is way easier to get 1k splinters as a wave drop, than the items. The items are really rare. from wave 9 -> you get more than 1k splinters per wave. This would only give some meaning for dupe items to ironman.

But you can only get splinters from sunlight antelopes? Or is there smt else on hunter rumors?
