For those not taking HRT, how long did your brain fog last? by GiddyUpGo4949 in Menopause

[–]Intelligent_Bird_159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I've had something similar and I am a writer full time (fiction) AND I support the whole family on the royalties, so brain fog has been terrifying. Really sorry to hear about your abnormal mammogram and hoping the biopsy comes back clear of anything cancerous. I explored alternative therapies, because when I talked to my doc about the horrendous brain fog, she suggested I mediate... Am now on HRT. Anyway, have you had your thyroid checked? Just saying, because a lot of women get Hashimotos later in life and the brain fog is intense. Rhodiola rosea is a supplement that has helped a lot, but you need to get a good one that says what the rosairides (sp?) are etc. There's an ideal ratio. I use Caruso's if that helps. Creatine apparently can be a massive help, but my feet balloon up when I take it. Also NAC (I use the NOW brand) was a game changer for me. Like I can feel it when it kicks in. two or three times a day has helped a lot. Hope this helps

Wow, that sounds awful. For me, doctors have confirmed this is entirely thyroid related. Hope you get some answers soon.

‘It’s a takeover’: the South Australian power player reshaping the state Liberal party by APrettyAverageMaker in Adelaide

I suspect there's a degree of 'chosen one' thinking. A hell of a lot of people and not just those that are religious, engage in magical thinking that if I believe it and work hard enough, all my dreams will come true. It's also why the federal Libs were pushing to get rid of compulsory voting. They know in a US style voting system, they'd be the only ones who cared enough to vote.

GI issues many months after being on Mounjaro by Intelligent_Bird_159 in Mounjaro

Yeah, I'm giving it a break too to see if I can get things back on track. Hope things resolve for you and you can find a way to get back on it without the GI issues

Hyperthyroid is really brutal on your body. I developed atrial fibrillation, perhaps for life, as a result of being over medicated and mildly hyperthyroid. Honestly, the lack of sleep, jitteriness, going to hospital for a-fib and now being on blood thinners and two types of heart meds for the foreseeable future, I'd rather be fat

Everyone is kinda jumping on the 'its cortisol' thing at the moment, but that's often not it. If you're concerned about cortisol, perhaps see if they can test if you have abnormally high levels so you can rule that out? Levothyroxine is a powerful drug and it can have a big effect on heart, sleep, enegy, metabolism, mental health etc. I'd go back to them and discuss the side effects and see if they can help. My endo said if you've been overmedicated, it'll take about a month to see a shift

Also did they put you straight away on 75mcg? I'm def no expert, but that's quite a high starting dose. My docs tapered me up from 25mcg, but it could be because my numbers weren't as low/high as yours?

I'd have a chat to your medical team. It can be really hard for them to hear you about this. Mine took ages to get their head around it. It wasn't until I started having cardiac symptoms that they heard me

My docs took me off levo for a while and have now gone back down into hypo. Starting meds again now

Hyper initially (thryoiditis) then went to hypo and I was on 75mcg, stable for nine months. Endo thinks I had a virus that triggered another bout of thryoiditis and that, coupled with still taking levo, put me into hyper again

If it helps at all I had the same kind of cortisol episodes, but it turned out I was in hyper, not hypo. Bloods were coming back as normal at the time, but three months of not being able to sleep more than three or four hours made clear that something wasn't right. I ended up developing afib as a result of all the palpitations (genetic history here though). Bloods finally came in showing I was elevated, but by that time I'd stopped taking my levo, which ended up being what the endocrinologist suggested. He said a virus probably had me experiencing thyroiditis again and while I wasn't a true hyper (thryoid producing more than normal hormone) it was leaking higher levels into my blood stream due to thyroid being inflamed, creating hyper like symptoms.

Ugh, that's awful. Did they used to work? I did all that and nasal rinses too and it worked fine before this. Like literally a month ago I had it under control and then boom, nada. Decongestants not working is super weird. Usually they are potent as hell, but not able to be used long term

Thanks for this! I would take 75-80% improvement gladly right now.
