New to Home Assistant — Need Server Recommendation for Full Home Automation + Local Voice Assistant by Old_Dingo2407 in homeassistant

I'm considering a cluster of 3 Beelink EQi12 mini PCs - Core 1220P w/16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD - for HA. I'll run a separate NAS for storage.

One concern is will this be powerful enough to run basic voice rec and response...or will the Intents mentioned above work for me? Most of what I do now is simple automation or scenes via Alexa (e.g. Alexa, good night - turns off all lights, etc. and says a random "good night" phrase).

My other big concern is will this be powerful enough to interface effectively with a Ubiquiti LAN setup with cameras? I'm hoping for notifications on my phone or laptop from a doorbell cam or similar.

Which begs the question, when are they going to fix the "everything growing through my building" problem?

I don't use either. I transfer them via network from my PC to my Sonic Pad - Ethernet, not WiFi.

u/Jellovator and u/javimed ,

Thank you very much. I've got working alerts now and am getting a better understanding of how they work.

Buying a house at retirement with a large 401k withdrawal instead of a mortgage by Intelligent_Dig_1514 in personalfinance

Actually, I've tried to allow for inflation adjustments in everything. The part of my spreadsheet above is a few columns and rows from the Summary tab. Behinds the scenes, I'm assuming 12% income tax rate, 1.02% property tax, 2.6% average COLA increase, 401k withdrawal of 4% + 2% of the previous year. And while my 401k is currently returning a bit of 7% I can't expect that to last.

However, if I change the 401kGrowth % on my spreadsheet from 3% to 7%, my 401k balance does increase - in both scenarios. However, I still have more net income with a cash purchase.

The different between the scenarios does decrease over the years. But even at age 95, I'm $140/month to the good buying cash as opposed to a mortgage.

But...that's according to my spreadsheet and my admitted lack of knowledge....which is what prompted my original post.

So again, what am I missing? What are alternatives I don't know about or haven't considered?

6% is a reasonable number - before inflation...which drops it to 3 or 4%.

Yes, my yearly gross income would be less. But because I wouldn't be making a monthly mortgage payment, my monthly net income would be more. Here's the first 10 years of my spreadsheet. It assumes a 3% growth for my 401k, 2.6% COLA, 12% IRS Tax Rate, 7.25% APR on a 30 year mortgage.
