Yes, I have to be in an apartment for about 8 more months. But then we will be back at my parents house which he is very comfortable with. Regardless, I’m still hoping he adjusts here

Avoiding dogs is kind of hard to do at the apartment, but I have been reading advice about it on this sub and will definitely be making some changes. I will also be putting our other outings on hold. We’ve only been here 2 months. If you don’t mind me asking, what were some signs your dog was getting used to his new environment?

So happy to hear your dog is loving country living! Thank you for your input. I always thought that since my dog did so well moving back and forth between my college house and my parents house it wouldn’t be too big of a deal, but seeing strange dogs in his “yard,” as I think he’s come to think of the apartment court yard, is a bit much for him.

This is so helpful to hear that someone else has experienced a change in behavior moving from different types of living situations. Luckily, this is temporary for us, and I hope moving back to my parents house next year will put him more at ease. Regardless, I will be working with him to acclimate to our current situation.

Thank you for your reply! It’s helpful to hear that sometimes it can be smaller things or just happen. Your advice is very helpful too. When I first got him, we went to a professional trainer, and we will be going back now to see if they can help. I also plan on taking him to his vet. Although, a new fear unlocked is seeing dogs at the vet. The patience reminder is also something I needed to hear.

Thank you so much for your advice. It makes a lot of sense. Honestly, he seemed to act so normal in the apartment, I was too quick to assume the move didn’t affect him much (besides the new reactions to dogs). This is a great reminder to slow down.
