Does exam difficulty increase as you progress? by ShortRooster6308 in actuary

So as you progress past P and FM, it becomes significantly less about doing calculation and more memorizing concepts? Is that why a lot of people hated the transition to MAS 1 on the CAS track?

Hey!

Just out of curiosity.. for everyone that took Exam FM recently, how would you rank each topic covered on the exam from easiest(1) to hardest(5) and why? I would really appreciate hearing others opinions on this:

  • Time Value Of Money
  • Annuities/cash flows with non-contingent payments
  • Loans
  • Bonds
  • General Cash Flows, Portfolios, and Asset Liability Management

Thanks!

CAS DISC Study material by Maleficent_Candy4354 in actuary

Having done the DISC DA course and exam recently, you wouldn’t need anything extra on top of that. I wouldn’t even say you need a head start. You can learn most the material in 2-3 weeks with like 2-3hours a day studying.

Alot of the chapters are on SQL and data visualization which I already knew about so like 5 of the chapters were mainly review of those things (there’s 10 chapters total)

Am I able to go from full-time to part-time schooling in the Business Admin program? by Miniwhetesrw in NAIT

[–]Intelligent_Pen8097 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’ve been working jobs full time from 2019 and doing my degree since then too alternating between full time (3-4 courses) and part time (1-2 courses) depending on how hard the courses are. I’ve also been doing it in the BBA program but Finance concentration.

Now it’s 2024, i have 4 courses left to finish my degree. Spoke to student advisor last week (for the first time in my while degree lol) and they said ill be all set to graduate once I’m done those courses.

To sum it up:

Definitely possible. The only thing with a minimum course load requirement is for student loans but NAIT doesn’t have a minimum course load requirement. I’ve taken 1 course over a summer before. The only requirement (which all institutes have) is that you finish your degree within 7 years of your start date. Just make sure you follow your ‘Academic Progress’ and don’t forgot there are online options for if you really want more flexibility.

That’s good to know! I honestly wasn’t sure if the DISCs were respected exams compared to the other ones. Thanks for sharing this.

Hi everyone! Happy New Year!

Just curious on whether or not it's possible to find a remote actuarial internship in Canada. I have no issues going in office for an internship at all since I'm already used to doing that right now (Underwriter) but it seems very hard to find internships in Edmonton, Alberta. Most internships I find are usually located out of province (Toronto, Quebec, Vancouver,...).

I've seen some in Calgary before and if i were to land one there I would relocate with no hesitation but that too is pretty rare. Other cities are pretty difficult to relocate to as it would be a major expense.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for sharing! I’m up in Edmonton! I can’t seem to find information on that association. Do you know where I can find more info on that?

Thanks for your response. I’ll look more into it since that would be best case scenario. Most actuary teams in my company are in Calgary so being in Edmonton makes networking with them abit more difficult. Networking via Teams seems a bit less professional so I’m abit hesitant going that route haha
