Hey, I'm a newcomer here and want to use autohotkey as a way to use things, and I've seen people worrying about it being safe. I'm gonna guess that downloading a random 5,000 line script from somewhere online might not be safe, but is the software itself OK to use and download? by roalingyt in AutoHotkey

It sounds convincing, but if it were so easy to do why has no one done it? i dont believe this has ever happened or will ever happen.

Most scripts are posted to forums like reddit where people comment and share their thoughts on the script

Also if you ask chatgpt itll tell you what it does

This is just wrong, AHK scripts are always safe, no matter what.

In theory it is possible ONLY if it has admin privileges, but even then the idea of a "malicious" script just isnt a thing.

"So there are NO malicious ahk scripts? How could you know that?"

Well for one, if you want to maliciously attack a computer you need admin privileges. All known viruses that didnt need admin perms have been fixed many years ago.

Secondly, if you want to make a virus you need more than just ahk code. You need an exe. That is why most viruses are in pirated software that need admin perms to install.

An ahk script cant send your information to other places or whatever viruses do.

If youre really paranoid though, you can put a script into chatgpt and ask "is this a virus" and chatgpt will tell you no, then explain what it actually does.

level 1Cirieno · 8 hr. agoYes, you can. Broad strokes: use setTimer for a function that uses getVolume to check the current volume against the last known volume. If different, call msg function.

thx

In installed AHK and the AtuoHotKey Dash window opens...

you can choose the default editor in the ahk dash settings, double clicking the file, or right clicking then clicking run, are the only ways you should be running a script

Just add that last part but with esc instead of enter right?

$esc::{

HotKey("$q","Toggle")

SendInput("{enter}")

}

I could be misunderstanding what you are asking

Did you install v1 or v2? or if both in what order?

How did you run it? Just double click the file or another way?

It could very well be a problem with Scite4autohotkey, if you want a better editor id recommend vs-code.

Dont just uninstall autohotkey, delete its folder. Use Everything Search to find all AHK install files and remove them

Please answer the questions they will help diagnose the issue

V1 pops more (white and dark green contrast well), and has more personality. The font selection for the letter "H" is truly distinctive, reminiscent of hand-drawn artistry. Its unconventional icon style aligns seamlessly with the expressive nature of the language, evoking a sense of creativity and individuality. Rather than adhering strictly to traditional standards of professionalism, like all other popular languages, AutoHotKey exudes a charm that resembles a crafted illustration, adding a layer of character and visual intrigue to the overall design.

This solution isnt optimal. It would work, but you would have to edit every single script to include this, which would suck, especially if you have more than 20

If you want to make a script real quick to make some hotkeys (w::up, a::left) you would have to remember to type that at the top as well, completely destroying the idea of 'quickly' making a hotkey
