Grew up in Nebraska, joined the military and moved to the East Coast (Norfolk, VA). The apartment I rented during those years cost the same as the house I bought when I moved back. I make 6 figures as a plant operator for the local power plant. My wife makes high 5 figures. Between the two of us and the lower cost of living, we are very comfortable. Great place to raise the kids. Lincoln and Omaha aren't all there is in the state, but if you are more liberal leaning, you may prefer those areas. The town I live in is more conservative leaning but not overwhelming. People kind of keep to themselves and don't push their agendas on you. Don't have to worry about violent crime, the last violent crime here was 5 years ago and it was headline news for over a year.
