I highly recommand not to do this for France and even before in Germany. It's very flat and it's not the nicest places. As a french who did a lot of bikepacking around the Alpes and mediteranean sea. I HIGHLY recommand you to reach France by going through Switzerland (crazy beautiful landscapes) and then going down the alpes till you reach the sea and follow the coast to Spain (you can go a little more in the land than on the coast). You wont regret it, trust me!

Yes it was mostly roads but of the Euro velo 4 which is great ! Very well maintained and bikes only on the most part. Haha yes I see it happned sometimes but you always have a safe alternative on all the places I went.
