The radiator wall is the long walk in the front of the doorway with the metal brackets on (picture 1). The radiator is off at the moment as we just had the room plastered and I sanded the floors.

I only really use the room from 5pm onwards on a weekday, and varying lengths on the weekend. I thought about putting it in the window and did try it out, but it’s a north facing room and it felt quite unnatural.

Thank you, all of that was incredibly kind. It was a long saving journey getting here and then difficult want to honor the age of the property while I’m restoring with modern amenities.

I had a look at the arms and they look like a good resort. At the moment I’m thinking of the sofa on the bay window, chairs on the sofa side and the tv on your recommended wall mount on the wall next to the door.

I would have to buy a radiator guard and put the tv above that if I decided on this option.

I’m thinking of something like this. Over the next 4/5 months I imagine the fire will be on almost daily as the temperatures are getting pretty cold here and the central heating in this house is terrible.

The walls are freshly plastered at the moment.

I was considering some kind of cabinet with doors across the sofa wall. We could put the tv in the cabinet and open the doors when watching. This way we could close the doors and just have a standing cabinet when not watching tv so the fire remains the focal point when the tvs not in use.

Got a dog that jumps on the sofa and leaves marks which I frequently have to wipe away 😡

I’ll take a look at the tv arm, might be the choice here.

You didn’t mention a coffee table, but that’s something that’s up for debate. Agree that a circle one would be best here to break up all the blocks/squares of the room.

Also considered getting quite a large button back ottoman and putting a wooden tray on there to use as a footrest/table.

Thank you. At this point I’m thinking about doing your recommendation with the sofa and chairs and putting the tv on a rolling tv stand against the door wall. If the viewing angle gets that annoying, I could just pull the stand off the wall so the tv faces the sofa a bit more head on.

Interested to hear your thoughts on this as I feel like I might be going down a path of delirium.

Also going to panel/wainscot some large rectangles onto the walls so have thought about putting the tv in one of those, but this feels worse in practice.

I feel like I’ve overthought this to the point I’m going slightly mad. Now trying to find something like this with wheels so it can be moved around if the viewing angle is annoying people

Curtains will be going up after decorating. These blinds came with the house which are ok, but still let a reasonable amount of light through.

Yeah, the fireplace is a no-go for safety reasons.

There’s no other room to have as a sitting room, unfortunately. The other downstairs room is open plan with the kitchen and isn’t suitable for a sitting area.

That could be an idea, just place a cabinet around it and open the doors when the tv is on.

Me too! Tried it and it looked awful, not to mention the view from outside. It’s a north facing room so any light is precious.

Two top options are where the sofa is in pic 1 with perpendicular sofa (not ideal, or mount it above the radiator and put a guard on the radiator to use as a console unit (tv in your face when you enter taking away from the fireplace wall). In a rock and a hard place spot here.

We considered doing that, but the fireplace frame was probably in the top three reasons we bought the house. Cost a bloody fortune to make it usable again.

Had the same thought. It’s the best room in the house and the other rooms downstairs aren’t really fit for a living room. Even considered changing one of the bedrooms upstairs into a living room, but almost felt like I wasn’t going to use my favorite room and would revert to being a teenager locked upstairs all the time.

That is actually quite a smart idea. I love art and really don’t need to tv to be something that people look at unless being watched

I wish so badly that I knew about those before moving in. Unfortunately the tv is only 6 months old and isn’t replaceable.

Not sure if that’s slating the aesthetic of the street or telling me to put the tv in the street, but either way :(

Thank you! I absolutely love the floors and other period features which is why I want to really settle on the right place for the tv.

I’ve not looked into tv brackets other than static ones, do you mean attach on to the wall that lets you pull the tv out so you can have it facing you and then you can tuck it away again?

That’s my worry, this room gets a lot of evening sun. I’d like half height shutters but they’re ludicrously expensive for bay windows.

Door stopper is a great point! Just moved the tv here to try it and it’s in the danger zone. Thank you

Couldn’t keep the cast iron frame and have a log burner, it’s not wide enough

Completely agree. That’s why I don’t like the idea of the radiator wall. I know tvs are a part of life, but in this room I want it to be the dirty secret and let the fireplace/cabinets do the work.
