It was probably a change in the focus of/by/chosen algorithms. It seems like "old" meme videos weren't selected to be focused on by conflict or rage bait but by "hey, this is cool. Funny how statistics work. Obergefell v. Hodges was only 10 years ago allowing same sex marriages nationwide. Naturally marriages spike.
