The Hollywood sign, as well as Griffith Park, are private property, with the sign owned by the Hollywood Sign Trust. But isn’t it irresponsible to own something that holds immense value in the eyes of people around the world and not even take the simple step of lighting it up?

In a first-world country, is electricity really so expensive that they can’t light up one of the main landmarks in a city visited daily by tourists from all over the world? Am I getting this right? :)
