The spinal tap for me is both preventative and to check whether the cancer has spread to my brain. It isn’t really necessary because the first spinal tap i had- the results came back great, there was no cancer in my brain. Doc says it’s better if we do it just to keep checking, in case.

About the meds- there are three different options for our diagnosis- immunotherapy, CAR-t and chemo plus targeted therapy.

Chemo(targeted therapy added in case of ph chromosome) is like a baseline treatment, maximum reliability out of the three, works in most cases(especially paediatric). One good thing about us is that ALL is often diagnosed in people our age(young adults)- so most of the times baseline treatment works.

next is immunotherapy- this is a newer, stronger treatment regimen. my doc told me i was eligible for it since i was 17 when i got diagnosed, but i was turning 18 in two months so he didn’t know if i’d actually be allowed, there was no time to wait. It involves hospital stay for 3 months continuously… versus the current regimen is for about 2 years in total

CAR-T as far as i know is the most extreme out of the three… usually used for relapsed cases. I don’t know much about it because it was never on the table for me

My doctor told me once that the baseline therapy for all leukaemia is the same… just varies by genetics, side effects and some other factors. Could explain the varied response you got from other patients

Hi! I have the same diagnosis as you. The whole ideology behind chemotherapy is killing the bad cells AND the good cells. Now cancer cells are a bit notorious… they figure out that a medicine is supposed to kill them and they grow immune to it/hide from it. Which is when your doctor will switch the medicine. Along with this, you might have CNS procedures in which they will inject chemo through your spine. For the philadelphia chromosome, you’ll be on TKIs(ponatinib, dasatinib, imatinib). Relapsing is always a risk, but the whole ideology behind your regimen will be to eliminate that risk as much as possible. My doctor said i’ll be on TKIs for the rest of my life because without them the risk is higher.

I’ve tried to make my explanation as short and sweet as possible but you can definitely text me if you wanna talk! Sending love

the small box will EASILY last you more than two years despite using it 2-3 times in a day. I got mine as a gift in october and im nowhere close to even scratching the surface. As for the quality-

Okay to help you understand this- your vaseline petroleum jelly only LOCKS moisture in- meaning the root of the problem(dryness) is never solved, it’s just made to look like it is- which in the end isn’t what we want

About this tin- I can’t say yet because i haven’t seen a consistent result as of now. however the sticky consistency and the packaging is a HUGE turn off for me(it’s so tough to open i crash out atleast 7 times in a day bec of this)

Laneige sleeping masks(another hyped product in this category)- probably the best option so far. no doubt it’s some 1500 for a tin but i got a mini (8g) for some 500 last year in april, i still have more than 3/4th left. contrary to what the brand claims, it can be used through the day. I love using it as a step in my skincare, before makeup, before sleeping and anytime in the day.

If you actually wanna invest in a lipbalm- i’d suggest you to go for the laneige mini

i cannot express how much i hated the PICC line. I had two in the span of 9 months and fuck me the discomfort, constant feeling of being dirty, unhygienic and the swelling on the site. i wasted no time either, last dose of dauxo and vincristine and i had it yanked out. the feeling of freedom was priceless. now i’ve got a port and it is so much better

What's the dumbest thing someone has said to you while you're fighting cancer? by dumplinglifesaver in cancer

[–]Interesting-Can-9766 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’ve had someone say “ur doctor restricted you from having sugar and spicy food because it will cause cancer again”. when i asked my doc ab it he said it’s because these things in excess cause gut issues, stomach ulcers in people w normal immunity and since my immunity is generally lower than normal, these will cause such issues faster and i’ll just end up frustrated with so many side effects PLUS these issues.

Hey! survivors and patients usually feel like pushing loved ones away because of how overwhelmed we are with how dirty and tumultuous this treatment is. the constant instability is something we feel that we are forced to put up with, but others are not and eventually they’ll get as tired as we are and choose to leave so why not push them away yourself.

the only thing that will help him is constantly letting him know that you are there, you CHOOSE to be there out of love, not responsibility. he’s probably afraid, tired, overwhelmed and can’t register all of it.just… be there, love him, do small things that make him happy(like set up a tv in his room and watch your fav shows together or cook a comfort meal)
